Thanks for all the info. Happy Skimming.
I have not ever rode a Apex fish or any of the Exiles skims, so I can't really tell you much about them. I do know about fish skims though, and here's the difference between a fish shape and a reg. round pin. A fish is usually shorter and wider (wider nose, middle and tail) which gives it a lot more float (planing surface) for it's size. And because it's shorter & wider, it can turn a lot sharper (quicker) than a longer narrower board. Back in the 70's when they made the first fish surfboards they put a tail like a fish on them because they found they worked like 2 pintails (because pin-tails have a lot more holding power) to keep the board from sliding out. I have been calling this The Year Of The Fish because it seems like everyone is now making fish skims & surfboards. I also think people are just tired of the standard boring narrow long boards. Hope this answers your question.
Hey I was wondering about fish shapes because I was thinking about getting an apex fish. I have come to you because you coined the phrase "The year of the fish" and seem to know a lot about them. So, enlighten me. How do they feel on wraps compared to a regular board (say an exile hybrid shape)? Liners? Float? Speed? Help Me Please!!
