i've been on this weird kick of trying to identify radio songs from my early childhood that have lodged themselves in my brain and always sounded mysterious to me, in a kid daydream way. most of them are kind of dentist office music, but whatever. i can sit and just listen to some of these and it transports me to being 7 years old, riding in the back of my aunt's car, going the to swimming pool. kind of weird.

alan parsons - eye in the sky
joe jackson - steppin out
bruce hornsby - the way it is
george michael - careless whisper
sade - smooth operator
genesis - that's all

etc.

I'm really regretting not re-upping on my CD-R's cause i wanted Burning Bridges for the car.

The song "Blue 42" (first song on Burning Bridges) has every element ever put into a good hardcore song:

chugs, breakdown, singy/catchy hook, guitar solo, bass "solo", fast riffs, pinch harmonics (squeals), and gang vocals.

xLooking Forwardx were really good. Vocals kind of have a Most Precious Blood sound, which was sick. I've heard of With Honor but went and checked them out. They were good too. I have Terror's "The Lowest of the Low" on my iPod but it never really clicked that they were straight edge. Good choices. Thanks.

In the next music thread that gets started, I think in addition to naming what people are listening to now, they should also include a brief explanation of what type of music it is... I'm always interested in finding new music that I haven't heard before, but for instance, I don't dig hardcore. A lot of these bands people are naming I've never heard, so I wouldn't mind checking them out. But I could save myself a lot of time by not checking out the ones that I know I wont like right away...

xghstx

Snatch is excellent, I'm also a big fan of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Guy Ritchie (writer/director) has a TV series coming out this year called Suspect which sounds pretty interesting (though after the shitfest with Madonna, he has a lot to make up for...)

We have sitting here (from 'Flix) Layer Cakes - supposed to be in the vein of LSTSB and Snatch, Matthew Vaughn directed who produced those.

Stars Daniel Craig (the new Bond) and a bunch of the Guy Ritchie "regulars".

Hooligans sounds good, it's in our 'Flix queue I think (as a pre-release). Sexy Beast is good too - another British Gangster genre, oh yeah, be sure to check out Gangster No. 1 if you like this sort of stuff - Malcolm McDowell, Paul Bettis (playing older/younger versions of the same character), excellent!

A friend gave me their CD "Slither" when I was about 14, never really liked it much but they did have a pretty huge following from what I understand.
