some people use only pads o nglossy boards. its all preference. the square's finish becomes super grippy when wet so you can use it padless and waxless.

No I bought them thinking they'd be like astro decks, but they definitely felt alot different. I don't really like them cus the foam wasn't as grippy and I didn't seem to get locked in as well.

I originally wanted to get the traditional rocker because I will be skimming mostly small break, but Steve talked me out of it because he says it "perls" too much (perl= when waves go overtop of the nose of the board slowing it down).

From there he said what he can do is take the hybrid knocker and "knock it back" a bit on the tail so that it's a bit flatter, which should help me out speed wise on small break. It's not officially the "Domke rocker". Apparently some other guys on the team use it too. I haven't tried it out yet and won't get to for a month or two.

I'm sure there are limitless amounts of rocker available. Talk to Steve or Hank about it.

haha that makes sense too. When I ordered my board there was no Domke board available though, so this is what steve and i worked out.

I'll reiterate that I weigh 165 and I'm 6'0. I could have gone with the M easily, but I wanted to try a big of a bigger board. It may not look bigger then my Zap, but when you hold it it feels a really big.

More info: The exile weighs 4.2 lbs. The Zap as is weighs 4.6 lbs. Unless my scale lies

I'm looking to get a ML hybrid 5/8. I figure going w/ a ML instead of a M should help mitigate the thinness of the board a little, and I may look into getting that rocker too. I'm 170ish and 5'11" so I'm thinking ML should be good. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

take it off w/a hair dryer and some strength. then use some mineral spirits to remove the gunk, then you can cut up the old back pad and stick it wherever or extend your arch if you desire

"Really interesting post...

The guy I work with is an artist (a painter by trade...does a lot of cabinet work) and board builder. One day several years ago I scratched a finished blank. "DAMN!"

He looked at me and said, "That's OK... it's the Iguana's footprint."

"What do you mean, Iguana's footprint?"

He said.. "You know when you buy that really expensive Mexican tile, and the guys down there that make it... they put the wet clay tiles out in the sun to dry. Well... sometimes an Iguana will run across it, and leave a footprint. People love that shi#. Proves it's authentic."

Similarly... I was given a gift from a friend who just got back from a few years in Japan. It was a clay vase. The artisan who made it took strips of clay and pinched them together, side by side, to make a sheet, which he then rolled into a cylinder, then joined and flattened the bottom, and pinched the neck. If you looked really closely, you could actually see the fingerpints of the maker.

For me... I like to see a piece of art... including a surfboard... that has character. What some call imperfections gives me a little window into the maker. I dig that. It makes me think about the worker, not just the work. It adds another dimension to the piece.

So now... I don't freak out about a fingerprint here, or a scratch there. That's just me... and you may simply overlook it... or inspect it... and imagine. "
