View Full Version : Advertising Rule

I know this topic has come up a couple times already, but as time progresses it seems the rule is stretched further and further, if not already gone. So I'm curious to see if it still is an applicable rule, and if so what now constitutes as advertising in this forum. I know in the past non-profit advertising, such as a new video on SkimNC or NJSkim would be fine, but is profit allowed now as long as it is relevant to skimboarding?

I only bring this up because of a few threads I've thought of recently, such as the fidelis, victoria sale, foreverskimthemag, etc. I prefer only the mods to respond to this thread, and rather than PM'ing them, I feel its helpful for all the users on this board to know this. Thanks.

foreverskim: derek and I have an understanding. Generally I want to support skimboarding media however possible, because it is important to the sport.

vic sale: it was posted by other skimboarders, not victoria. If it was victoria it would be advertising.

fidelis: pretty much a blatant violation but since one of the contributors to the project is jonny who has done some work on this forum, it seems reasonable to look the other way.... ONCE.

Advertising is different than discussion. Advertising comes from owners, employees or agents. Discussion comes from non-related parties and customers.

The rule is not gone. I still regularly delete threads that break the no advertising rule. You just dont see them cause they are deleted.

since other non-admins already posted, i'd like to add my 2 cents. in reference to the vic sale and the fidelis threads, those were not advertising in my book. the victoria sale was merely skimboarders trying to spread the word to other pskimboarders that a company was having a sale. pertaining to the fidelis thread; when a new company emerges in the skimboarding world, it's a big deal. i think it's perfectly appropriate that it be posted on the only skimboarding-specific message board so people know that it's out there. with the foreverskim threads, foreverskim was the first and the biggest online magazine specifically for skimboarding. it's already been established. it's not advertising if someone posts and says, "hey, check out the new fsm. it's incredible." it's letting other skimboarders know that it's out there and available for them.

to me, advertising would be if someone came on here and was like, "hey....check out my company. it's better than all other companies and you guys should buy from it."

fidelis was definitely advertising. there is no agrument to the contrary. the rest of your point is valid. But it is only valid as a one time thing. you wont see associates of the brand posting new threads about fidelis in the future.

there is also the fact that robs is a long time member of the mb community. its not like he registered on here to get some free promotion.

robs is pretty sneaky, he might have been thinking far far ahead in time.

What about the exile stuff?

So i need to tell someone that is not involved with the company to post a thread, that revolves around a fedilis video (that everyone would like to know of)?

this is going the wrong way; the answers been given, and whether it's agreeable or not, it's peluso's rules.

You mean like when I make threads about exiles new products? Yeah those are against the rules. Which is why you never see them.

Or like when I go beg random kids to post something about exile to get around the rule? Yeah that happens a lot.

Bottom line is that its my forum. I make the rules, and I adhere to them as well. And even if I didnt, its none of anyones business anyway.
