Anyone here abotu the gian squid that was caught yesterday off the coast of New Zeland? It was 990 pounds and 37 feet long. The eyes were the size of dinner plates and if you were to make calamari out of it, the rings would be the size of tractor tires... I'm too lazy to look up pictures, someone else can...

i went giant squid fishing twice last month and those fuckers would not bite to save their lives. struck out twice bc either the moon was out or too windy or whatever other reasons. fuck squid.

giant squids are really fucking cool, just like every other deep sea creature.
one washed up at plum island ( one of my fave. skim spots) like 15 years ago or 20 years ago... i think almost 4 - 7 have been discovered washed up on shore.

it makes me sad to say that i've actually seen that picture three times before this.

you use these weird ass squid jigs and drop down pretty much as deep as you can go and just keep reeling at a slow constant rate. you need a night with no moon bc squid use the light to silhouette their pray against the surface and if the moon is out they wont be attracted to the boat's light. you start out deep and if you can geta few hooked then they start to come up to the top and if your really lucky they will just swarm the boat and it will be a feeding frenzy. they usually weigh at least 25 to 30 pounds and thatll give you like 15 pounds of calamari. when you catch them they get to the surface and start shooting ink and water like a fire hose. you gotta look out or you will get shot. here is a picture of the jigs you use. this one is actually a pretty small one. http://www.j3fishing.com/sitebuilder/images/SJ160-2-210x196.png
