okay, like really. i just realized you can set your homepage to be a ton of tabbed windows, so that when you launch firefox, it pulls them all up automatically.

call me retarded, but i just haven't messed with it that much yet. any other sick features i should know about?

one thing that drives me nuts is that when i have a firefox window open, then open a new window, i want the new window to duplicate the content already open window. IE does this by default. However, a new window in firefox just opens to my homepage.

yeah i hate that, i use ctrl+N about a thousand times a day and i get really sick of having it default to my homepage

and that is sick about the tabbed home page, i have been using firefox for about 8 months and i haven't played with it's features at all, i'm really slacking on this shit

BART

new tab doesn't do what i'm asking for

Derek Makekau
06-07-2006, 12:45 PM
yeah that's bothered me as well. if they would just make a right click, copy tab or something that would be great too, just some way of duplicating the current window without copying and pasting the address.

to set multiple home pages, just open them all up and click use pages. you can type them in manually too, seperated by the "|" deal.

any other sick features i should know about?

my fav feature is that if you see a hyperlink in a window you can click on it with your scroll wheel and it will open a new tab

I usually can have between 5-8 browser windows open at once, and then various programs running which just kills the taskbar, so having all my browser windows in one taskbar line in tabs really helps keeps things organized.

derek..how do you make the page selection permanent? i set the pages i want and it works fine until i close outta firefox but then when i load it up again, it has the gay firefox update page as my homepage

!!! <--4derek i really prefer tabs, it's a lot easier to keep track of the screens, especially when browsing different links off an index. a little hard to adjust to at first, but if try them for a while, i doubt you'll go back.

Ctrl+Shift+Delete clears all of your private data, so if your being chased by the feds it's a useful tool.

firefox rocks, just because I dont have to type my password for myspace anymore. Ohh yeah boi.

Jasen
06-08-2006, 05:57 PM
how do u manage that?

also, myspaces security is very slim, the way that they have their login, someone with a simple virus under your name could get your passcode very easily, because it is encrypted(not well) on the url, as you login

they have websites which you type in someones URL and it spits out the passcode :)

yes i have fucked with a couple of my friends

myspace is a perfect example of how poorly written code doesn't scale well. I hope they're redesigning it as we speak, cause it's BAD. I honestly have never seen a large scale web app perform that badly, EVER.

ZapBulletRider

And I love this shit: "an error has occurred. an email has been sent to myspace technical group." Can you imagine how many emails they must get (if they haven't already turned off that functionality)? Somebody tell these guys about custom application logs.

Nuke561
06-08-2006, 08:08 PM
then again all of myspace was originally designed by one guy, Tom. they werent prepared for the mass population that came to it. then fox bought it thats why you see that xmen shit all over the login page. so i think fox has hired a tech group to work on the errors and the server functionallity

i REALLY hope myspace goes the way of xanga, livejournal.. real popular until *poof* gone

and i doubt they will be redesigning

That's my point. He should have designed with scalability in mind, but hindsight's 20/20. These days I think every good developer keeps scalability in mind because you see it happen so often, little apps gain a fast-growing user base and they can't support it, have to outsource for a redesign or something. There's no reason it can't be done right the first time, from a coding standpoint. But yeah, myspace is bad. I get an error, I refresh immediately and it comes up, images are always coming up as red x's, comments not getting posted, all kinds of weird shit. I know it can't all be blamed on code but something's going on back there that isn't what it should be.

And jake, I wouldn't put a redesign out of the realm of possibility. As big as myspace is, it's not just going to disappear.
