I'm trying to sell my textured exile because I cannot get my pads to stay on it. Yes, i sanded it down, and yes, after they fell off, i used marine goop to put them back on. The arch bar is fine, but its the back pad that keeps falling off. I've had the board for maybe a month, east coast only so far. I'll get some pics up tommorrow. It looks like shit, only because the pads are so "scraggly" looking, but its an extremely good board, in very good condition. I'll take anything over 250 for it. If it matters, X-trak archbar, poorboy back pad(whats left of it).

you didnt sand it well enough. thousands of textured boards exist with pads on them, including the entire exile team... it works, you just gotta do it right.

yeah, my pads haven't fallen off and i've also got a textured exile... sand it good and then i put some terpentine on to clean it after that i put the pads on and heated it a bit with a hairdryer... never had a problem with my pads.
seems pretty lame to sell your board just because of your pad issue imo...

Is there ANY way to mess up the carbon by sanding too much? Actually, thats a stupid question. I mean, when do i know to stop sanding, so i don't screw up the carbon?

take 80 grit sandpaper and sand the area as hard as you can for about 90 seconds. Sand the entire area until it is completely roughted up. Clean with alcohol, let dry. If no alcohol, use water but let dry for way longer.

Apply pad.

if any corners start coming up use superglue to nail them down.

You will not screw up the board by doing this. Maybe if you sanded for like 30 minutes, but your not gonna do that right? Dont be afraid, your not going to hurt it.

if you dont sand as hard as you can, you are going to need to sand for longer.

understandable, but I don't think its that lame because if some other kid can make use with something i can't do right, why not let him benefit off my mistake? I've never had a textured deck, none of my friends have ever had one, so i had no clue how much to sand off the top. I sanded it pretty good, multiple times, and i couldn't get the pads to stick. Maybe it was my pads, i don't know. I'll sand it down again, the do what you did, and see if it works. If it doesn't, i'll let some kid take my board for cheap, and get a large exile w/o a textured deck.

right, right, i just didn't want to end up messing up the carbon if i sanded it for too long.

when i sanded it last time, it turned white on top, and it was a lot more smooth than the surrounding area. Therefore, i figured it was done. Thanks for the advice with the board and i'll see how it goes.

how do sand: with the palm of your hand, pushing hard, very hard. you should be creating a lot of dust, not just turning things white.

afterwards you need to clean it really well.

the goal of the sanding is to remove contaminants, mainly a wax film, rather than to "make it smooth"

lol i know how to sand, i just didn't know if there was any way to fuck the board up. I'm using a x-trak arch bar and poorboy penetrator back pad.
I'll test out those methods, then try them out on the sick gulf skim this weekend...

I just mentioned it cause I have seen people who just sand lightl with their fingertips and no pressure for like 30 seconds, which does basically nothing... they are afraid to mess it up, which is understandable, but really not a valid concern.

could an exile employee sand the board for you? if so, is it free or an add. charge? heck i would be nervous too, sanding a 400+ board and what have you. Aaron, when you are sanding, do you do a little over where the pad is supposed to go? Like if i was going to put the backpad on, do i trace it on the board and then sand the inside area, or can it be sanded a little wider of an area (3/4in max) to make sure you sanded where the pad will be placed?

I do sand it a little over where the pad is supposed to go. We can do it at exile, its free as long as Hank is around. Right Hank?

Another option is to get "textured no wax". If you do this the color will not look nice when you receive the board (especially dark colors, white is almost no different). But you dont have to sand, you just clean and stick.

I imagine this is what tcmarkley had.

Is there anything negative abot a "textured no wax" board? I was planning on getting a white board anyways.

from what i understand on the website, they offer glossy and textured finishes. i guess aaron was just saying the whole exile team has textured boards.

josh, if you are getting a white board I would definitely get textured no wax.

the only thing the wax does is make it look proper. If you get a black board no wax it looks like a black car that has been sanded. If you get a white board it looks like a white car that has been sanded.... so its very dependent on the color....

regardless of color though, once you put pads on it, wax it up and throw it in the water a few times you would have to look closely to see a difference between a board that came waxed and one that did not.

P.Pointe, it doesn't matter if your board is textured or glossy you should always sand and clean propperly before installing pads.

Save you money.

Local professionals commentary on the regal wedding
Diane Aiello: The Sarah-Burton -designed dress with its lace V-neck, fitted bodice and cascading satin evade was not only figure-flattering, it furthermore combined classic elegance - alike to what Grace Kelly was dressed in when she got married the Prince of Monaco - with a up to date feeling. I loved that she was dressed in a tiara with her scalloped, lace-trimmed veil.
Robert Black: Amazing. Regal, timeless and feminine.
Angela Karp: When you believe of a illusion, and envisage a princess, that's what she examines like. Simple, assured and elegant. Calm and happy. She belongs to it.
Ginger Murphy: I'm so satisfied she went with fashion-forward Sarah Burton and she looked so unbelievably beautiful. I particularly loved her lightweight and airy veil.
Carrie Wheeler: The Grace Kelly-esque dress was the image of understated elegance: lace bodice and sleeves, fitted waist, full evade, alike, albeit smaller, neckline.
Melissa Goldman: Absolutely stunning. Her fitted silhouette with embellished lace sleeves and tasteful feminine - somewhat plunging - neckline was most divine. Such a complicated look. A flavour of classic Grace Kelly paired with her up to date day attractiveness and freshness took my wind away.
