Where to find out about different surfboards

Where is a good place to start to learn about different surfboard companies/surfboard styles? Im looking at buying a second board, right now im on a board a little big for me, 6'6 channel islands flyer and i weigh about 158.

I'm looking for something new but dont know what I want to go with.

a 6'6' channel islands is deffintly NOT too big to learn on. its MUCH smaller than a longboard and youll get the feel of a shortboard.. i taught myself when i was 10 on that exact board

well im past the learning stage at this point, the board has been really good to me though im just looking into something new thats all. it definetely didnt feel too big for me when I got it.

how tall are you? where do you surf? how big are the waves you are surfing? beachbreak? reefbreak? pointbreak? what do you feel this new board should offer up performance wise? how experienced of a surfer are you?

I am 5'11 158lbs or so, surf beach and point break and most of the year the waves are no bigger then waste-chest high until hurricane season + winter storms.

I am not exactly sure what I am looking into performance wise because I have not been able to ride that many different types of boards to know what i'm looking for. A ton of guys around here ride fish but there is a pretty big variety of board types around here. I

As for experience I can carve my way around a wave pretty well but I have not got into anything technical.

for a high performance shortboard i would recommend a length that is between 6'2 and 6'4 depending on your ability to paddle. a width of between 18 1/2 and 18 3/4. and a thickness of between 2 3/8 and 2 3/4.

you would be amazed to see how many people that work in surf shops....

a. know nothing about surfboards and surfing
b. arent good enough or have had enough experience to give good advice

um. if youre 16 or 17 and you work in a surfshop. its almost given that youve been surfing for a long time. any idiot (surfshop 'dude') will know in what direction to lead you. Especially if this is close to the beach.. not up in delaware or some shit.

you would be surprised....this is coming from someone that works in the biggest surfboard factory in hawaii.
