Well i'm off to take the SAT's. Wish me luck. They shouldn't be to bad though. When i went through my review book I realized they were way easier than I thought. Anybody else taking them? Good luck to anyone else that is taking them.

I think an essay would've helped in my case
Rhino
06-03-2006, 09:19 AM
possibly, but i think it just makes it that much harder to prepare for, although i didnt study one minute
ZapBulletRider
06-03-2006, 09:25 AM
yeah you can't really study for them, and all the people I knew that took those prep classes barely improved their score.

the essay is hard because you only have 25 minutes. thats like 5 minutes to write each paragraph if you dont take time to think and reflect

steve-o
06-03-2006, 09:53 AM
it doesn't specify. so i did an introduction, 1 body, and a conclusion. i got like a 610 on the writing so i was pretty pissed. (overall was 1930 though).

I just got back. The math was way easy at least like 95% of it. The essay was alos really easy extremely open ended. 25 minutes kinda sucks. I took like 2 minutes to think it through then the rest to write a 3 paragrapher. The grammar/reading/writing part was ok not really easy but not horrible. Most colleges I went to tour/listen to a lecture say the essay won't be considered into admissions because it is to new to say how it will affect you. Hopefully I can get 650 or higher on everything That would be nice preferably 700 or better.

depends on where you are looking at for me a good score would be 650 or above on everything so a 1950 or better, but more like a 1300 since most colleges don't really care about the essay yet

So what is a good score now?
well for our county the highest score for 2006 senior class was only a 1895. it got the two guys that made it into Ga Tech and UGA (both are a big deal here). i do know a kid who was a C student that got into GA Tech because he made 2350.

yes to first question and yes twice to second question

ok, cause I know a lot of people that expected a certain score based on how well friends did, thinking "oh, I'm a better student than him, I'll do better than him", and it didn't work out that way.
Rockporter9
06-03-2006, 12:48 PM
yeah I know that's just what i'm hoping to get as minimumsif i get around 700 on math and do poorly on english i'll just study english next time. I'm thinking i'll do alright on math 650 or above but maybe not that on english. Essay is a mystery to me I don't know how they score it, but like I said most colleges don't care. Also i know it doesn't work out that way, I'm not the best a standardized tests. i have a 4.001 gpa and am #2 in my class but both of my psat scores weren't awesome. All this test really does is evalutate how good you are at taking tests.

rockporter what schools are you looking into? and youre #2 in your class with only a 4.001? not tryin to base on you that just seems like a low gpa to be number 2 in your class

I had a 4.1 and I was #18, one place out from top 10%. But I had the highest SAT.

My school is really small. Rockport has 7,000 permenant residents, 300 students in the high school, and about 80 kids in my class. Also our gpa scale only goes to 4.5. The only way that is possible is when you take all ap's, no honors, or regular, etc, and get 100's in all of them. This would be difficult. Either 8 ap's all 100s, 7 and 1 study all 100's, 6 and 2 studys all 100s, or 5 and 3 studies all 100s, anything less than 5 classes they would make you take another class and if it wasn't an ap you couldn't get a 4.5 gpa. We only have 8 ap classes so this would be impossible for 4 years and even if their were 32 aps you probably can't take them freshmen or sophomore year. So really the highest you can get is somewhere between >4.0 and >4.5 at my school. This is how my 4.0010gpa puts me into 2nd. and in top 10%. this is also of last quarter so it probably went up. This quarter has been really good for me. In the beginning of the year my gpa was like 4.1 or so but I got placed from spanish 3 to advanced spanish or 5 or the one before ap. That killed it for the first 2 quarters i got like a c then a b- now a b+ and an a. So I went from 1st, to second, to third, to second, to possible 1st. From 4.1 ish to 3.9997, to 3.9 something to 4.0010 to probably 4.002 or better.
Hope this clears things up. This has nothing to do with sat scores though at least not all of it. I don't take standardized tests well. At least according to my two psat scores. they were ok not great midrange. I think I did all right though. If I get 650 or more on a section that is acceptable to me although I would like at least 700 or more on everything.
Wow this is really long. Sorry in advance for spelling/grammar issues I am writing this quickly.

God I couldn't stand the kids that gave a shit about their ranking. Then I laughed in their face when I got the highest PSAT and SAT and got into the school they got rejected from. Figuratively. I figuratively laughed in their face. Basically I just laughed by myself when they weren't around.

So is the SAT a big deal in the rest of the nation? Around here, all they care about is the ACT (I don't even remember my SAT score)

Tear Down Your Idols
06-05-2006, 07:27 AM
like all straight A+'s in honor classes.
Rockporter9
06-05-2006, 11:59 AM
At my school that would only get you a little less than a 4.3. i'm not sure what your schools scaling system is ours is 4.5 if you get a 100 in an ap. 4.0 for 100 in any class then +.3 for honors and +.5 for ap. So 4.9 is not possible. it would have to be <4.5 max at our school. So a 4.001 is good and gives me #2. This is also due to the smallness of my school and class. Hopefully it goes up and I can be # 1 again like at the beginning of the year. I'm doing awesome this quarter. I got an 86 on my spanish final. Which means a lot for me going from 3 to advanced or 5 failing 1st quarter doing poorly 2nd quarter and failing the midterm exam.
What is your school's gpa system like?
steve-o
06-05-2006, 12:09 PM
i'm thinking my school sucks. we're on a regular 4.0 scale and taking ap classes doesn't weigh any different than regular classes and yet i am number 4 with like a 3.9 taking ap.
ZapBulletRider
06-05-2006, 12:27 PM
when I was in HS it was +2 grades for AP, +1 for honors. So if you got a C in an AP class, it was like getting an A.
It's all arbitrary, the colleges will see your grading scale and judge based on that.
Rockporter9
06-05-2006, 12:38 PM
true, true. At my school a C in an AP is 2.5 what ever that is C+ B-? But colleges also look at individual grades, SATs, essays graded and ungraded, interviews, extracirriculars, transcript, application, etc. It is just part of the whole picture they look at when they decide to accept you or not.
This must be for all of you Florida Guys:
Standard Classes
A=4
B=3
C=2
Honors:
A=4.5
B=3.5
C=2.5
AP
A=5
B=4
C=3
Chrith

i got a 2.4 gpa
