I'm ready to order a board today, but cannot pick between all the different options.. I'm going to spend in the 300 range. I think I have decided on an exile recruit, but would look into other suggestions as well. Though I have searched a ton already, and the exile seems like the best choice.

keep in mind I'm a beginner. Skimmed on the sand years ago with a cheap wooden board, and enjoyed it. I want to buy something that won't limit me getting better once I do get good.

Based on that, I think I want a pro shape. I hear the learning curve is more difficult, but I will get better quicker.
The size though really throws me off. I'm 6 foot and around 165-175 pounds. Seems I'm their site I have different options as far as sizes that will fit me. What would be suggested?

Thickness I have read a lot about but am still lost with the skim slang. I will skim in so Cal, so laguna, and other areas. Best thickness for these areas?

And not important, but color? To go fastest white/red, or teal/white, or teal/grey?

Thanks all for the help, very much appreciated.

You will receive different opinions on here but I think (according to Exiles size chart) a ML would be your best bet. Also as for thickness, 3/4ths core tapered out to 5/8ths. You will get a bit more float out of it and it will still be responsive. Later on after getting better you might transition to a medium with 5/8ths thickness all the way through the board. Get a textured top, you gotta sand the top before applying pads, but textured boards are said to be stronger than a gloss finish. As for traction pads I would personally go with Freak, Follow the Tripod Let's Party traction, or gorilla. That's personal preference though. If you have anymore questions, just ask. My friend is taller and heavier than you and he rides a medium pro just fine. It's usually better to size down than up around here

I was thinking probably a medium, and you just helped confirm that. Thanks.
Was getting textured for sure. Only thing I was absolutely positive on.
