Helllo all,
I was wondering what is the easiest, quickest way to carry my skimboard. I still have no case and no money to buy one. Thanks! Do the airlines accept it as a carry in?

Convince them its a boogy board, or else you're shipping a surfboard which is expensive.

I would just get a bag and stuff it with clothes

You can buy a seat for your skim. OIther than that, get a case, and stuff it with ^clothes, towels, bubblewrap and line the edges with foam pipe insulation

what RUM said. If you're not gonna get a bag, you'll need like a foot-thick layer of bubble wrap or something. My board bag has only gone through the airlines twice and the outside is beat to shit

1.buy a skim bag that can fit multiple boards.
2.put your board in it.
3.make it your suitcase as well.
4.strategically place your cloths on the rails.
5.bubble wrap the nose and tail.
6.pray to god the guys who load the plane got laid recently.

My Best advice, aside from what's been mentioned above.
Cut an old blanket or moving pad into a Board sock/bag.
cut out cardboard pieces to fit top and bottom of the board.
wrap with towels, clothes, bubble wrap or all 3.
foam pipe wrap is also perfect for the rails.
approx: $5 for all of the above

Dtrick's the man. The less luggage you carry, the more money you will save. A lot of airlines are hosing you for your first piece of checked baggage. So get the coffin bag and make it your suitcase. It's probably more cost efficient if you can just take one bag, even if that means buying a coffin bag because you do get charged on your way back from wherever you are going too

Depending on how far you are going. It could make a lot of sense to ship the board ahead USPS, FED-EX, or UPS. Should not be more than $20 each way, domestically.

They also will beat the shit out of your board, so pack it good.^

Yes. Improper packing can lead to disaster. Slotstik has been using the same packing method for single board shipments for over 15 years, and it's highly effective. Take two lengths of Triple ply cardboard 24 inches wide and 4 inches longer than the overall length of the board and tape them together on 3 sides, leaving one end open. Use two wide ( 18 inches ) pieces to fold over each end of the board, tape them on both sides, and then slide the entire board into the end side of ' envelope '. The board rests in a nice pocket on top and bottom and the edges are bomber. As an added touch ( sounds lame, but do it ) write all over the box " WE LOVE FED EX, UPS, USPS..... YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST ". We have had only one board in about the last 200 take damage, and it was very minor.

yeah, i would personally recommend shipping to the destination ahead of time if possible. many reasons:
1. board is way too big for a carry on item, it wont fit anywhere, so it will go in with the rest of the cargo. another ticket would be rather expensive. most airlines charge about 25 or 30 for 1 thing of luggage, if u have something else, its will probably be even more. as jim said shipping will be about $20 unless u go overseas. costs slightly less.
2. equal chances (very low) of it getting lost by shipping or airlines, but at least with shipping you can track it, with airlines you are at their mercy. again shipping wins.
3. for airlines its also being banged and tossed around by luggage handlers who just pile everything up as fast as they can so take off isn't delayed. at least for shipping most of the people, even when rushed and making their last round at 445 or 5 pm, they will at least try to put your stuff down in the truck somewhat safely and do so in a way where its not getting smashed and if they drop it, its from where his waist is, not being tossed through the air. when a driver breaks too many things, he gets in trouble, and he ships a lot of fragile stuff. they are usually careful. random luggage handler isn't held as liable and they mostly deal with suitcases of clothes, not fragile = wont be as careful. yeah sometimes they still mess up but who doesn't make a mistake every so often?
i say this as someone who travels by plane often enough and someone who also used to help with the shipping every day at my old job.
