I have been skimming for a long time.... I had a wooden slyder for years and then got a little zap board. This past summer I decided I wanted to get good and actually get out to the waves. I bought a new zap can't remember if its a large wedge or medium pro, I paid 315 for a package deal with pads and a bag. I only used it a couple times and the tide wasn't right because the beach was steep and I wasn't able to get a good line to the waves. I'm 5'9 about 155 and want to get better just don't want my board to be keeping me from it. Also I live in mississippi but we have a beach house in gulfshores which is were I normally skim at. Also is there any stores online that I can order catalogs from cause the closet shop is over 2 hours away

hey man welcome to SOMB, you probably got a wedge because a zap pro costs 260 if im right. But you probably should get a new board because a wedge only holds riders up to 150 lbs. there is a catalogue on zaps site
http://www.zapskimboards.com/downloads/
and also on exiles site. http://exileskimboards.com/images/stories/NEWS/2010/Exile_Catalog_2010/EXILE2010.html
anyways i am guessing you dont want to spend to much money on a board yet so you should check out the used board section here and at skimcity: http://www.skimcity.com/categories/Ride-These-Boards/Used%7B47%7DDing-but-Repaired/

Yes, welcome to skimonline.......it's not so much the board but the rider. First to ride waves, here's some things that will help. Speed, remember you can't have enough speed. Next when going out to the waves keep you weight on your front foot (gas) not the back foot (brake). And last.....most places are best at high tide (because the wave will break closer to shore). And yes you want a steep beach too.
