The fallen men and women of the United States armed forces deserve our respect and gratitude, and today is the day to remember and honor them.

I'm honoring them by working and not getting paid time and a half. Now thats a celebration.

I honored them by getting pissed off at the abundance of people at the beach.
But seriously, good thread.
if we can at least have one serious thread for the month, I think this should be it. but yeah I chose not to skim today for that reason Derek.

My dad is retired Air Force...we've been remodeling the house, but he went out two days ago and put in a temporary holder out front so he could hang a huge flag over the garage for the weekend. Good stuff.

I had to march in 80 degree weather with really high humidity. I play trumpet. It sucked. I wish I could've had the day off to skim or whatever. I had to work the rest of the weekend one of the busiest in a tourist town like Rockport. Pretty much this weekend was horrible. In all seriousness we have to honor our Armed Forces for doing all that they have.

Dude i know how that feels but seriously band is gay give it up lol
I just checked, in all the wars fought by the United States only 10,000 soldiers have been killed in action defending actual US soil, not counting Pearl Harbor or Civil War.

I know, but my mom won't let me. I only have one more year of it so i think I can survive. Plus colleges want consistency.
Dzan, that was incredibly unnecessary and extremely disrespectful to post in this thread. ONLY 10,000 soldiers huh? You say only as if that is some insignificant number.
400,000 American soldiers died in World War II. Directly defending U.S. soil? No. But would this country be what it is today if those soldiers hadn't made that sacrifice?
I don't care if you don't agree with the cause of Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, or any other war. You should respect the fact that men and women, your fellow citizens, stand ready to go fight and die so you can sit back and pull up your statistic (that was obviously meant in very bad taste).
Don't spread your disrespect in this thread again.

Hey I have an idea: go fuck yourself. I wasn't being disrespectful, you are reading too much into it and you need to get the sand out of your vagina and stop projecting.
Would you go to the vietnam war memorial and post a sign saying "none of these men died protecting U.S. soil?"
The point is, that was extremely unnecessary and it WAS disrespectful.
yeah dzan, that was pretty fucked up. i know where you were coming from but that reply was extremely unneccesary

To be fair, none of the vietnam war dead did die on american soil and I'm fairly sure everyone in the world is aware of that. So I don't see why I would need to post a sign saying something everyone already knows.
If you think it was disrespectful, thats your problem. I didn't intend it to be, and if you took it as a knock against soldiers for some reason, like I said before, you are being defensive and seeing what you want to see.

the iwo-jima flag raising was a staged photo op that wasnt even taken at iwo-jima....i think thats pretty disrespectful. You might as well have put a screenshot from saving private ryan up.
All I'm saying is, this was the wrong place to post something like that. It's in bad taste.

I actually went to a place in Vero called Memorial Island where local soldiers and others are remembered with some markers and such.. There was a service there and I went to that. It made me realize how much they give up for our freedom..

had the WW11 soldiers not gone over to euro, than the Nazi's would of token over (quite possibly) and memorial day is not only honoring people who died protecting american soil(even tho people in DDay were protecting american soil in a way)

Dzan's not an idiot, he is right actually, just because you dont agree with an idea means you need to bash him, they were fighting for a belief in some of these wars not for US soil...

@aerial: tell me of a war thats fought (by US) for a belief, that does not or would not lead to the security of the US being threatened...
vietnam: comis spreading attacking S'vietnam
cold war: ^^ same
WW11: obvious one
WW1: also obvious
civil war: on our own land
iraq: weapons of mass destruction
ummmmmm.....
I would respond to that ignorant post, but it WOULD be disrespectful to this thread, so I'll refrain. If you want me to humiliate you, make a new thread asking that question.

personally, i think you've done a fine job of humiliating yourself. i don't care if "only" 10,000 soldiers or "only" 5 soldiers died...they died for your right to be free. i can't imagine that it's that hard to show them the respect the deserve.
...they were fighting for a belief in some of these wars not for US soil...
actually, if you put into perspective the idea that this country was founded upon the right to freedom and happiness, soldiers defending our nation in foreign territory are defending american soil.

Please quote the sentence or words I said that implied scorn for or made light of those 10,000 deaths.
Oh right, I didn't, so you can't. Thanks for playing.

The quote you posted of me was in no way disrespectful to anyone.
I thought it was an interesting factoid that would surprise people, since it suprised me, and I posted it. There is nothing in that sentence that pisses on anyone's grave, you are just an instigator trying to start shit to look cool. The word for that is 'douche bag.'

Wow...
Dzan said something and everyone interpreted it as "i'm disrespecting the soldiers" or something in that nature when he was simply implying something totally irrelevant to the soldiers themselves, and probably fairly off the topic of the wars.
Most of you read what you wanted, I think Dzan was just bored and felt like making people who make assumptions (like my mother) angry.
You're NOT in kindergarten anymore so STOP reading between the lines.
dude, its the internet calm down DZAN. and on all the standerized tests for my high school classes, i rank in the 98th percentile(math and english) O THE IRONY

i think it's more along the lines of myself reverencing the fact that people (1 or 10,000) died for my right to be a free and happy person, but interpret that in whichever way you want.

You are trying so hard to bust my balls. It's hilarious. I ask you to point out something I said that was offensive and you couldn't, yet you still won't give it up.
Face facts: I didn't say anything that was the least bit inflammatory, you and some others were looking for any provocation to prove how patriotic you are (or whatever) and you ran with it. When replied to with the simple question of what is offensive about what I said, you have nothing.

Too much reverencing thats the problem.
i think it's sad that you can say that one can reverence "too much" the fact that someone died for him..
and as for you dzan - like doug said, the thing that pissed me off was you using the word "only" like 10,000 was an insignificant number. i then said that i don't care if 10,000 or 1 person died for me - i hardly think those people as insignificant.
You're All A Bunch Of Commy Bastards!

hell.. I didnt really wanna set anything off, I wasnt saying the people arent appreciated or anything, yes, I appreciate everything they have done. Im not trying to set off a "forum war".
Dzan, the word "only" there is what sets it off. I'm not out to prove anything, but you say "only" like 10,000 is some insignificant number.
Compared to the million or so that have died in total, 10,000 is pretty small, about 1%. But true significance doesn't lie in numbers.
You are braindead if you believe their deaths were treated by me as "insignificant." On the contrary, those 10,000 deaths are more important to our freedom than almost all of the others put together.
But hey, you've already read exactly what you wanted to read so far in this thread, don't let this post stop you. Please feel free to find another adjective to make you go into a psuedo-patriotic fit. Might I suggest 'true'? Anyway, don't let me control your irrational responses, you do a good enough job of them for yourself.

funny, whenever i hear someone defend the war in iraq they normally say "well we've only lost 2468 soldiers and we're doing so much good."

1st: I can spell.
2nd: I am. And I don't have to prove a damn thing to you.
3rd: The point was that you were bragging about being in the 98th percentile so I figured since it was a big deal to you, I'd give you my opinion since I ranked higher than you.
