Aloha, It's time once again for the much anticipated HASL contest #2 0f 5, the Yokohama Skim-O-rama sponsored by Downing Hawaii surf shop.
April is the most bangingist time of the year for one of Hawaii's most famous known skim spots at Yokohama Bay located in the wild, wild west part of Oahu.
For those of you who don't know, Keone Downing surfed in the Eddie Aikau contest in Dec 2009 and the dad George Downing was the contest president and the one guy who makes the decision if the Eddie runs or not. The Downing family is considered surf royalty here in Hawaii and HASL is proud to be recognized by them.
The sign up links are open at hawaiiskimboardleague.com & the contest date is Saturday April 24th at 10am.
As always food will be provided by Lulu's Waikiki bar & restaurant. We'll be out in the middle of no where so come prepared (bring plen'y beer!!)

Here's a pic of the skim at Yokes recently. This is how it's going to be for the contest. Our league is growing so I invite skimmers from around the world to plan a trip.
Talent is stacked and the waves big so if you want to make a name for yourself in skimming placing in the top 3 in your division is a big accomplishment. We're always trying hard to get the results out & give recognition.
Hawaii is also a great place for secret underground training during the winter. No wetsuit needed even on the coldest day and there's so many skim spots that it's always hitting good somewhere.

Here's what the waves looked like at last years Yokohama Skim-O-rama. Keaio and Shiho charging in the women's final

The waves were really small that day. For Yokes these waves are considered tiny. HASL member & Sandy's local Micah Bush

A very blurry pic at Yokes of HASL MC Matt Dillon just before smacking a huge frontside

And a close up of how big Yokes can get right on the side. Go stand in front of this and see what happens..
Are these pics posted correctly? Can everyone see them?

I miss your beautiful island. I need to save up some money to travel there and skim in a HASL event someday.

Yokes update: Flat as a lake today, cold, miserable, cloudy

Look at how small it was today. Sad :'(

Not to worry, it's been cold & ugly for a week. Usually in Hawaii glorious days with lots of swell come right after the ugliness

Here something to get you pumped on this weekends contest. This has to be the sickest vid out of Hawaii thus far. Thanks Keiao for putting this together it really highlights all of Oahu skim breaks. We really have a little bit of everything here. I guess you finally made Sterman come out of the closet...

And now the post everyone has been waiting for. The Results!!
We lucked out with Yokes having super big clean shorebreak. It was good to see so many competitors from Maui come out and visit. And of course Ace from Kauai. The conditions held up beautifully the whole day and everybody was just killing it.
I think the biggest story was the outcome of the 4 skimmers in the Men's Advanced with everyone excited for Dave Sterman. Dave's recent release of maybe the sickest skim video to come out of Hawaii meant the pressure was on.
In the end the winner was Kyle "Little Man" Olson form Maui riding a Maui Skimmer with 115 points in the final. Little Man also won the Dangerous Shorebreak contest and now obviously shoots him to the lead in league points. Sterm took second with 103, Anthony "Ace" Conlon in 3rd with 100 pts, and in 4th was last year's league champ Clark "Sharkface" Camp. Congratulations to all these guys it was just super close during their final and came down to just a few numbers.
