my first thought too Jim...... why would you not pad those poles? that's a liability if i've ever seen one.

Jim Gordon

They are going so f#cking fast that anything near the run should be padded.

Brian Kniveton

there wasnt any other spot around that doesnt have cement pilons lined up along the run?

Apparently the other athletes have been calling every turn 50/50 chance of making it. This course is a little too sketchy it seems now.

they're going fast enough where padding won't make a difference

i agree. padding would not of helped. he was going very fast. the walls should be higher up though i think if he fell of and the wall was higher he would of just slid and survived

Hate to break it to you. But anything anyone has ever done is ultimately for nothing.

as bad as bullriding? Explain to me how this is anyway comparable to going 90+ MPH on an unstrapped sled on hard ice going down hill making sharp turns. Your stupidity bewilders me. I would ride a bull any day before i tried ice luge.

padding would not have helped.... lining the course with concrete pilons is just dumb.

He was going 144.3 km/h. Padding likely wouldn't have done much. I feel bad about the accident but these are the best luge racers in the world competing on the worlds fastest luge course. They all know the involved risks and are willing to push themselves insanely far at a chance to win a gold medal.

I guess you're right, I didn't know he was going 90 mph. I guess like that other post said, put up higher sides would be better.

dude, i am guessing you have never been on a bull. i wouldnt quite compare the two. riding a luge you know exactly what youre getting into. if you're not going 90 mph, you wont even come close to being good.

every single ride is different on a bull. its not the ride thats the scary part its running for your fucking life with the wind knocked out of you after you get bucked off. i would get on a bull again faster than i would get on a luge, though
