The F-14 Tomcat was retired on Friday.
Ironically, the only other country that bought the Grumman aircraft was Iran. Now their aging fleet will be that much harder to service.

piece of shit plane
A-10 Warthog or nothing baby
"Armies Angels"
nothing is better than seeing 2 warthogs leave base to fuck up towel heads in the mountains "trying" to mortar the base
yeah, because A-10s are Navy planes and can land on aircraft carriers and everything.
Jeff once again proves that he is a piece of shit.

damn dude, dont get so emotional.......its just an airplane.
f-14 rules
it's basically the first plane you learn as a kid that kicks ass. you see the movie top gun, you get a little toy f-14 with retractable wings. plus it just has sexy lines.
p.s. jeff, whatever, when the a-10's go up during an airshow i usually go take a piss and grab a hotdog. i much prefer to watch an f-14, f-15, f-18E/F, f-18 c/d, f-16, f-117, t-38, f-4, b-1, b-2, before watching an a-10 again. they fly like tugboats.

the f14 might not be top of the line anymore but a10? haha... thats like the worst plane we have.... I mean, its useful for what it does in its limited role. But so is a volkswagen bus...

A-10 was built to support the infantry, and does a good part in doing that.
what ive read and been taught, the cockpit is titanum (sp?) and it can fly with one of its rear turbine damaged.
i think their max speed is around like 200 something forgot
Fuck planes, its all about missles.

when i was at Ft Indiantown Gap for a WWII reenactment there was an a-10 training mission going on in the impact zone and from one ridge were our convoy was moving we had a clear line if site when they blasted it too hell. the a-10 is plenty badass. seeing them launch rockets and hearing that volcan cannon is crazzzy
a-10 doesn't even have afterburning engines. it sounds like a tiny airbus. the 'sound of freedom' is way sicker. nothing like having that rumble penetrate your tissues and reverberate through your skeleton.
check out out the pressure wave of this f-14 ripping up the water. that's
not from the engine thrust, but from a pressure wave created as the aircraft moves close to mach 1. the immediate roar of sound is that pressure wave reaching the camera.

Fuck planes, its all about missles.
and rockets. rockets kick ass. i saw minuteman III rip across the sky once, as a dummy ICBM being launched from CA into the south pacific. i later read it was going mach 20+.
fucking amazing.

if you heard vulcan cannon go, it sounds something from a video game

best place to watch A-10s has to be Fort Leonardwood, Missouri where i went to Basic at
they trained with every arsenal of weaponry there, FTX was the shit the A-10 training grounds was a couple miles away and they would use illumination flares high up so we could use it to our advantage during FTX
it sucked when they would do runs at 2am in the morning though

I love that video.
As much as I love A-10's, the F-14 is much more versatile. I see A-10's regularly that are stationed at Willow Grove. Unfortunately, its usually while I'm playing golf. But when they fly real slow overhead, I think about what it would be like to be at the receiving end of its arsenal. It gives me chills.

I'm pretty sure the F-14 can still fly with one engine.

They all serve a purpose. A-10's are the greatest anti-tank aircraft ever created, hence why they're still around, you can shoot the shit out of it with 20mm, small arms, blow a part off the wing, or take a piece out of the ruuder and she'll still come home. When it comes down to it the F-22A Raptor dominates everything, from firepower to manueverbility to versatily. Not to mention its stealth capabilities. The Tomcat on the other hand was/is a great fighter indeed. I fly in a C-130 Hercules Myself.

Im pretty sure we all understand its like compairing apples to oranges, but this thread just reminded me of arguments i used to have when i was little. and i mean that in a nostalgic reminicsant way, not being an ass.
