here in georgia, in an effort to stop voter fraud, they've been trying to pass a law that says in order to vote you must show an approved photo id at the polls. i don't really see a problem with it but one judge has ruled it unconstitutional and compared it to a poll tax. i don't really think it's necessary, but i don't understand what the big problem is. the bill was sponsored by republicans and from what i can see in the papers is the only opposition was from black democrats who claim it would disenfranchise black voters somehow.

your thoughts?

i guess the poll tax is the 15 dollar fee of getting a drivers license....if they issued free state id's the judge couldnt say anything or if they put pictures on voter registration cards

There are a LOT of black folk in atlanta who dont drive and use Marta and don't have state ID cards. I can see why they would be opposed to it, but then again we have to show ID in Florida and its not a big deal that affects turnout.
