I'm bored, and this plan won't work until there's a lot of people to fill up all these threads and forums but hey, why not plan for the future? Hope this makes sense to everyone, feel free to flame away.

Master plan

Skimboard forums - Then you can click either Inland/Wave Riding/Tropical/Other/and newb section, Then in each section you can click on Locations/Spots/Brands/Tips/Tricks/Tutorials/How to/Skimboarding News/Skimboarding discussion

Off topic forums- then you can click on cars/politics/anything else/technology/sports

Buy/Sell/Trade- then skimboards/anything else

Site Discussion - self explanatory

Feedback Threads - to leave good feedback for b/s/t

edit- it would only work if skimming grew like 500 times over night, and those are just ideas with all the slashes

this only works for forums that get a lot of visitors (ie. offtopic).

WAY too granular. I think what makes this place successful is that we're essentially crammed into two forums.

I'd rather not have to look through 15 different forums to see the new posts... Although in theory it seems like a good idea, but in practice I don't think it would work unless the site has way more members than it does now...

Part of my administrative role on these new messageboards, and the new SkimOnline website is the creation, maintenance, upkeep, promotion, and all-in-all "fun" atmosphere which is tried to kept in-check with regards to the overall mentality of those ancient members that have been visiting SkimOnline since day one.

I have been creating online communities for clients for a good four years now - professionally. As a hobby? For about six. Websites? A good seven. I specialize in the structure, design, and maintenance of vBulletin boards - and all communities for that aspect, whether it be a simple webpage for attraction, to a full-blown (soon to be) interactive megasite of skim knowledge. I don't consider Aaron a client, because I took this on fully knowing that this would be a part-time (near full-time mind you) hobby of my choosing. Any arrangements or benefits between me and Aaron about the upkeep and future of the site are strictly confidential, but I do know a thing or two about maintaining communities and building them.

If we do get 250,000 members then that will be a glorious day of having to begin compressing databases to handle that kind of load. Your idea has crossed my mind hundreds of times - but only if a community is extremely large and has the capacity to fill a forum with enough activity to run itself.

I appreciate your idea(s), and fully accept them, but when questioned about whether or not I haven't already thought about this or not - I have, and I've probably already had some sort of thought and conclusion regarding a lot of questions about the boards, site, and community as a whole... things myself and Aaron most likely have already discussed over random phone calls in the car. At stop lights. Exhuasted from not sleeping for 48 hours.
