just use dvd shrink, its free. then burn with whatever program you have (ie. nero)

as previously stated, DVDShrink allows you to copy a DVD to the hard drive, copy only certain parts of it, re-author it or whatever, then shrink the thing to a size that's burnable. You can create a burnable ISO directly from a DVD in the drive.

Then you can use DVD Decrypter to burn it, also DVD Decrypter is a faster tool for ripping the files on a DVD straight to your hard drive.

Both these tools are easy, and FREE for use. So no, all you need is a burner. And if you want to watch dvds but don't have a dvd encoder installed, just get VideoLAN (VLC) media player.
