I'm a little more excited for this year's x games than in previous years for some reason. Looking forward to the mega ramp for sure and skate street.

Saw this feature on ESPN, really good video and perspective on progression of action sports. Some extremely heavy bails included. Interesting to hear what the leaders of their respective sports have to say about progression.

Great fucking video. The jake brown crash always fucks my mind. what is he made out of that enabled him to stand up and walk off the ramp?

indy: stephen murray is, i believe, more mentioning how riders could crash, how they do these tricks despite the danger. of course people love it. and the fans are the ones enabling these guys to prosper from putting their health at risk. i dont think hes trying to say the people are blood thirsty spectators hoping and praying for a dude to fall. though, i assume there are some assholes like that. thats why shit like break.com or whatever exists...

on fuel tv they had a show called xgames classix it showed all the gnarly things that go on at the xgames and the crazy progression of sports. also shows jake brown's and danny way's falls i am still baffled at those two. first off how can you fall four stories and walk it off? and way finishing all his runs! i would have been on the floor crying he is just at tank.
Indy you mean stephan murray?

Holy shit! I had heard the park was concrete in the middle but man, what a great course they set up. I'm interested to see how comp machines like Sheckler and Chaz Ortiz take to a park that relies much more heavily on speed and flow and less tech. Should be fun. Good on X-games for stepping up their park.

P.S. - I can't imagine charging that park sans helmet.

actually now I'm confused. Here's a street course...

exactly, they wont. they separated street and park. thankfully.

The "street" and "park" are separate events. Skateboarders would, more often than not, rather watch the street competition. Unfortunately, the most you will see of the street event is a 5 minute montage and the results. The Park event is the one that is actually televised. ESPN does this because it's not skateboarders that make up the majority of their viewing audience. The majority of the audience is the average "i love sports" football fan that doesn't understand the complex intricacies of a real street event. The average viewer just wants to see fast riding and huge tricks. Not that I am trying undermine either event, both require an incredible amount of skill but park is the one that you will see more often.

Well, I've never been told this by ESPN or anything. It's just something I've gathered after watching the Xgames for the last 10 years. If you look at the history of it, the X Games have become more and more XTREME. Just look, they get rid of roller blading and add moto X. They practically get rid of street and add the Mega Ramp. Half of the X games are Moto X now. We all know that while it's arguable whether or not Moto X is the most difficult extreme sport, but it's very obvious that it is the most extreme extreme sport. To espn, it's all about making the riders look more and more insane.

That ESPN X-Games Classix was so awesome. So many great best trick clips. Tony's 9, Mirra's double backflip, Pstrana's first win at X, and Danny Way getting up after that fall and killing it on the mega. So epic. Brought back some memories of being a little grom.

So fucking sick. After watching the Dew Tour and especially the Malof Money Cup, I'm ready to see if the X-Games can top it. All the skateboarders were going nuts over the Street course that Malof had. If it made it to MTV, there is a market for street skating at ESPN.

My favorite is usually the BMX big trick, or BMX dirt jumping. So man insane tricks. I remember when Dave Mirra's "flair" was the sickest trick. Now people are doing like double flair double tailwhips or something.

I saw that on Classix yesterday. Chris Senn was killing it and did a 50-50 on a handrail which seemed like a big deal.

Other sports that used to be in the x-games that confuse me:
Rock Climbing
Barefoot water skiing
sky boarding

he tried pulling some sort of backflip to 360, but he crashed hard. knowing him, he'll probably try it again and stick it.

That is a pretty dumb statement. If you are flipping and doing 360's in the air, 40 feet up in the air, I think you would need your vision to figure out what/where you are going. Your vision would already be blurred from spinning that fast in the first place. They also need to see where they are in the trick to know whether or not to bail. They said during the first attempt he had the presence in mind to see he wasn't spinning fast enough so he tried to gas it to get the bike to spin a little quicker in order to try to save it.

Lots of bullshit judging in every event.

For BMX big air if the quarter is so important I would just get a huge air over the first jump and try to get the biggest air on the quarter. Automatic first apparently.

I hate announcers that don't know what their talking about. I don't care what sport it is, a backflip with a single spin is not a 720. WTF is up with counting the backflip as a 360 and then the rotation as another 360. I've seen surfing doing this too with "720 rodeo flips" where they don't even quite get a full 360.

edit: I don't care much for Sal either (more so that he's a Hollywood gossip whore)

edit2: and landing on your side isn't even remotely close to landing it
