i used to bag there years ago. it was boring as hell however it was not a bad job at all. they pay an extra $ on sundays, and bagging there will earn you tips. I don't know how young you are, but if you just charm an old person once per hour on average, you're already getting a dollar on top of your wage.

I used to give handjobs to willing clients in the parking lot. Not sure if that counts but take it for what its worth.
I still work there. 9pm-3 am every weekend! this weekend is 2 for 1 come and see me!

brother works there as a bagger says its mad easy gets paid $8.50 and should be making $9 but they just switched managers when he got his raise and got a 25c insted of the usually 50c he got. Hes been working there for 2 years and started off at either 7.25 or 7.5 i dont remember.

i worked at a big grocery store and was a bagger, its probably the easiest fucking job you will ever have. You clean every once in awhile and the regular shit. Helping customers out to there car will generally earn you at least a dollar unless there cheap dickheads. Also it was easy to chill in the back and throw various fruits off the roof, play with the hose in the produce dept, you can eat whatever you want as long as you break it. Its an easy job for that pay and its not back breaking work or anything and my manager was a dickhead.
Did you already get accepted there Derik? if you did, sick, do it. if not, they dont hire that much. i tried for a solid 2 month period and got nothing, although i do know 2 people that work there.
edit:damn, you guys' jobs sound like SO much more fun. winn dixie is pretty strict, they always know where you are and you can't slack really. also, you can't accept tips, but i say fuck that. eating what you break? some kid ate an already damaged/open can of mini pringles. my manager caught him and made him go up and pay the 1.99 for it. when he got back with the receipt, she fired him on the spot.

Ive worked at Winn-Dixie for a year now, mostly as a cashier. i have friends that work at publix and they say management is way too up tight.
im not sure how publix operates, but at my job we have 1 bagger on the clock at all times. they have to bring carts in from the lot, clean up spills, do go-backs at the end of the night and bag when they can
now i know publix always has like 3 or more baggers because they are not as cheap as Winn-Dixie but im guessing its pretty much the same
if/when you bag/get carts, you are able to slack off, go to the bathroom whenever you want, go outside, and get tips. but you also have sweat your ass off pushing carts in for 6 hours a day, sucks imo
if you cashier you pretty much stand on a black mat all day, and stay cool in the a/c. but if you are not really a people person then you prob wont like it.
stocking is also an option, but i haven't tried that so idk, but it looks like a lot of lifting and shit
after a year, id much rather cashier

oh balls. lol i didnt try yet, trying to figure it out. i might just take products off trucks, price them and stock them cuz i dont like talking to fucking old people.
thanks for input all

well i never got caught, none of the baggers or stockers ever paid for there food because the deli will hook you up sometimes as well and carts are easy to get and you spend maybe less than an hour getting carts, its a cake job.
I just got promoted to a cashier over sb and it is a LOT better than being a bag boy, but i still mainly bag. wd is cheap as fuck and only has 1 or 2 baggers on at a time. even on easter, when we were jam packed the whole day, all 8 lanes open, we had 2 baggers so i never got a fucking break.

i work as a cashier at a major grocery chain
bagger>cashier
actually anything is better than cashier
not where i live, definitely not. baggers are the bitches of the store.
working for minimum sucks. its ok at first, then you realize that your time isn't worth the money. i know i sound like Dzan here but its true, i value that hour of my free time more than $7.21
yeah i agree, i'd much rather have my own time than money. i learned that when i started working 2 years ago. i used to work at piggly wiggly for a year and a half. first started out bagging and it was the shit. bag for a little bit, get carts, clean, then chill in the bathroom for about 20 minutes. when it would get really busy i would just disappear and help the dairy guys stock or something. i did cashier about 1/3rd of the time and im not the greatest people person so i didn't like it all that much but it wasn't bad. i then came back to work for spring break and after last year and realized they were going to make me cashier the whole time and i said fuck that and got a new job.
but yeah, i did like that job it was easy / got 9/hour / not stressful. i think if i went back to be a cashier i would be fine but my job i have now is fine. 6000 posts.

Yeah, but if during that hour of your time you have to sit at home and stare at the wall because you don't have any cashflow for car/insurance/gas/food/beer/parking/wax/pads/etc, then you start realizing that it's a balance of money *and* time.
I think DZan's comment was in the context of the amount of cashflow at a given job vs. the time the job takes up (vs. not working). I have a pretty good handle on that for sure (having bailed on a job because of the overtime, commute, OOT/travel).

I worked at Publix for 2 weeks. And I just hated my supervisors. And it seems to be unverisal there...they hire god awful management. I have worked in construction for three years and as a waiter through highschool...but I could not take Publix.

publix is like the biggest grocery in the Southeast region
what the hell is a shop rite and ACME
there 3 stores down the street from my house, 1 regular walmart, one win-dixie and one publix. the walmart will be a supercenter by 2010 and the win-dixie and publix will die out.

Publix is a Florida store. Not generic at all.
edit: I'm going to apply soon. People say they don't hire much around here, but I'm gonna see if some people I know can help me out. If not any place that hires 15 year olds I'll apply at.

Meijers up north was fuckin sick.
That being said, my pops just wouldn't accept me working a job as a 'bagger'.
"Have some dignity for yourself", he says.
in south carolina we have publix, winn dixie, bi-lo, food lion, and piggly wiggly. and harris teeter

aldi is the fuckin shit!
super fuckin cheap shit!!!!
and just to throw some input here, we dont have a publix or a winn-dixie here...all we got is jewel osco and dominicks. meijer is the shit since its open 24/7...i felt like buying cod5 recently and had an itch to play nazi zombies so i went to pick it up at like 3am, haha.
also i once saw a piggly wiggly and laughed my ass off
on the subject of bagging/cashier dont they consider it a "promotion" (higher pay) if you go from bagging to cashier? if so then why the fuck not take it?..even if it boring. and just so you guys know, those places do have a lot of opportunities of advancement because of the high turn-over rate. i know a guy who started working at my neighborhood dominicks when he was 16, it was his first damn job...started out as bagger, then cashier...by the time he was 19 they made him the manager and now he runs that shit and has a pretty legit pay...

RexSkimmer

even though going form bagger to cashier would be considered a "promotion", it's really not. you get the same pay (at least where i work), and bagger is a much easier/better job. as a bagger you actually get to walk around and do shit. cashier you just stand at the register for 6 hours. i would consider a promotion getting a job anywhere else in the store but the front end.
they do drug test.. so u crackheads dont apply
