I've been skimming the Gulf for over 20 years and it does not suck. We don't have the biggest waves but they are still fun & the talent level from the Gulf is second to none as well. It is what you make it.

I skim with him all the time and he can kill just about anything. He could go to your hometown and make anybody look like a joke. Also Stephen Bradford, he is also another pro who is dominating the scene. I dont know if it is in other areas of the gulf, but where I am located (panhandle), there is alot of talent that isnt seen. Not trying to go after anyone just trying to make a statement. Oh and if im not mistaken, Aaron Astin is from MILTON, thats a farm town near the gulf coast.

gulf talent is defined as biggerspins on 6 inch waves and airs off nothing much like bradford does. that kind of skimming is sick as hell because i still havnt figured it out but you dont really see much of that kind of skimming thrown out when its 5 foot real waves. gulfcoasters do best most of the time when they are at home. im not saying that corbin, steve, monster, and others dont do well in waves. im just saying that they do best at home. domke, blake tyre, AA and pete anderson are from the gulf but moved east and it has done amazing things for their skimboarding and making them much more rounded skimmers. i can remember when brad moved over here, he couldnt figure out what to do with a wave. im not knocking gulfcoasters, im just pointing out that gulf skimmers have a whole different style of skimming than eastcoasters. so yea, gulf talent isnt a bad thing. its jsut different than you see on the eastcoast. also, sorry man but you know nothing about my home town.

this is old news guys...there are rare waves on the gulf and they get REAL REAL FUN, but a 5 foot waves on the gulf and in laguna are VERY different. Matt budd is right, you can usually tell the difference when two people are skimming 5 foot slabs, meaning who is from the gulfcoast and who is from california or anywhere that gets waves... SOOOOOO the gulf gets occasional fluffy wraps and liners, and has talent in skimboarding.
