Hey guys, just looking for some protips. I started skimming a few days ago (using a recruit), I'm having some problems with my drop. If i go at a bit of a jog, and then drop the board when my front foot hits the sand, I can get on almost flawlessly with my backfoot. As soon as I start to run at all, I fumble with my footing and fuck up my foot placement and stuff. Any tips?

A good place to skim in nyc is the rockaways. Crossbay avenue exit. Drive straight until you hit the beach. You will cross a toll. And bear right.

Yea, low tide has been really nice lately by Jones inlet jetty, easy to get to waves...I've been using this big ass vic polyvac board and I have to say it practically rides itself....smooth rides

Yeah its mine and I took them, the source of your weirdness, is that I'm using a digital SLR with 35 year old Olympus film lenses fitted to it, so unless the settings on the camera are absolutely spot on to work with the old lens it takes a bit of editing to fix them. All the digital controls are gone except for shutter speed, white balance, aperture and all that shit has to be set just right. Regardless it still yields some sick results, but I haven't shot in so long that I honestly need to get back into the swing of shooting.

It was really fun today at cups jetty. good slope on east side of the jetty, as well as a mysterious little sand bank on the inside of the inlet that sucks currently but has a maddening amount of potential. will be keeping an eye on it

Pruffy fun today, a cleaner swell made the sandbank sider/liners easier to get, which was pretty epic, but it was hard on average to get a great wave. Cupsogue Jetty is an interesting spot as of now, I had a lot of fun on solid fun-ly waves today and yesterday.

New camera should be here sometime next week! Same awesome waterproof one that took great pictures (for a digi) last year. And as of tomorrow we are filming motherfuquah.

I'm writing today to let you guys know that Dro Binge is hosting it's annual competition on Sunday, in Coney Island. We have kids coming from around the east coast, a bunch of dudes from jersey are coming to compete. Including Jesse, who you guys might know, bringing his Florida style to the event. Overall, we are expecting to have 25 ish competitors. It's a friendly competition that has been growing year by year, and we would love to have you guys come through and skim. There will be 3 divisions, based on age. 20 dollar admission covers food drink as well as prizes given to the top 3 placers of each division.

We can accommodate anyone that comes through with a place to crash if you want to party with us Saturday night, otherwise just come to show us up! We have some media coverage for the event and are working on food sponsors now. Red bull has shown interest as well.

I've been there several times (not to skim), and the waves there make Jones Beach look like Sununga.

However, Jason Lee, and myself will be there.

The waves there can get decent on some days, and so far the forecast for Sunday is proving to be the best all week. So we will just have to wait and see. They definitely break differently to what I've seen at Moses, Jones beach or other spots in LI and Jersey. But again, we just have to wait and see if the skim gods are in our favor that day ;) Last year we had some really nice waves for the comp.

We will welcome any newcomers, and their guests, just remember this a friendly competition held in our community, so don't come with any pretenses.

Yeah the Dro Down was pretty sweet. Waves didn't really pick up till after 2pm, high tide was around 6:30 for us. Jesse Lash from Florida took first in the men's division. That dude can rip.

Weather held up, and it was a pretty good time all around.

I'll post up pics from it soon, we had a photographer from the Bay News come to cover it as well.

Next year I would love to collaborate with some of you guys and organize a comp further east, where the waves get real nice. Msg me if you would be interested in something like this.

Ahh, well it seems that you're going to be out of luck until you get your car on campus. I don't think anyone lives near the University; I'm about 35 minutes from the school. Like Glenn said, you're pretty far from some of our most consistent spots, but shoot either of us a PM, and we will gladly fill you in.

Best bet is smittys, I go to school at suffolk just down that road from stonybrook. Just hop on the LIE to exit 68 and drive straight south. No parking fee's past labor day. Its hit or miss though.

The sandbank is gone again but for a while it was quite fun, although really only like 5-10 times in the month and a half or so it was there. But when it was good it was pretty and fun. Needs sustained se to ese swell to build up and south to ese swell to work well. Current is not bad until you get to like waist-chest deep and then it rips breeehh:eek:

Last week(i think it was last week) we were at cupsogue point with a smallish to medium east swell and we could see from our side that smiths had a sick sand setup with a point next to the jetty that went out past the rocks. Bent waist high liners around a cove directly from the end of the slope marching right down the beach. looked really fun. Only time, actually, that i was at cupsogue and sure i wanted to be on the other side at smiths. how far is that from the parking lot though, pretty far correct?

You can't walk it, to get to the smitty's side of the inlet you need a jeep, its about 5.5 miles from the parking lot to get to the jetty. So if you've got a truck or somthing and an off road pass you can get to it.
It's been ridiculous warm, I just enjoy winter for its winter sports, not luke warm sloppy freezing cold ocean water ~_~

Nah, shits on and off frozen shit. Last winter was 10x better, actually had some decent snow, wasnt always shitty ice. if half the mountains just finished opening all their trails and its almost january its a shitty winter.

I didn't give a thought more to the ice than I needed, it was still a blast. at least 3/4 of the trails were open and I'd never had the slopeside condo experience so I could've been limo driven to the lift and it wouldnt have been cooler than strappin my shit on at the condo and sliding into the empty early morning lift line. feelsgoodman. sorry to hear that you cant go though man, save up for feb. break when it'll be reallly expensive. I did miss the giants winning the superbowl but I'd say it was worth it

Yeah vermonts always a blast, our condo last year wasn't slope side but it was mad close and super nice and the snow last year was perfect the first day and half we were there (got cloudy and froze up for the last 2 hours) but it was so much nicer and more fun than anything around here.
