If it weighs like similar or less than eglass I'll b satisfied. it seems like carbon just has too short of a life span for me to be able to drop 400 on it...idk I'm hopin the kevlar'll stay put for a while, but im pretty good to my boards so maybe itll work out.

I'm pretty sure kevlar is just as light as an e-glass board, so don't sweat it out too much, either way the shape and weight will make more of a difference than anything, it's going to be lighter then a foamie for sure.

yeeeup. high winds will fuck you up. sometimes the board'll be all the way in the water sliding and then...pow! right in the kisser. board to the face. probly the only reason why heavier can be better. and sometimes it helps w/ my momentum.

i still got a knarly scar on my lower shin, was going down the line at " oh shits " fell back into the wave and the board shot out, then shot back right at my shin didnt walk for 3 hours, it was a really epic day too was, and your feet are are all scars

If its that windy I honestly don't really bother to even skim, i just break out the sponge or surfboard at that point haha, no point in wasting good waves because you can't get to them so just ride them with somthing else

i havent had to say no like once in a year bc of that foamie's built in weight... don't like kicking sand either- but it sure can help avoiding pop-flying skims occasionally. and that little board was downright funny to watch sometimes andrew. shit almost killed ya one windy day as I recall. not enough weight to do any real damage, but it likely could've hurt. I just wanna bond with my sweet new skimmmm

But I just got back from skimming jetty4 and it had a nice good size but tricky wave to the left of the jetty. but it was windy enough that i got cold real quick and had to retire after like 45mins. fun stuff though... and I've never really skimmed on a snowy beach in january before...yeehaw:D

the boots I use and love are Oneill 7mm closed toe(not the teenage mutant ninja turtle toe- more comfortable, less warm) with a thermo-layer(dk what that means). I got them for xmas like two years ago and theyre still like new and toasty as fuck.Probly anything with that thickness is gonna be good enough but be sure to try em on and kinda figure out if youre gonna like skimming in em bc mine feel like skimming in neoprene chuck taylor allstars(a good thing) but a lot of people dont like skimmin in booties. also do look for one with a nice thick rubber sole bc you step on all kinds of sharp things skimming that you wouldnt surfing.

I like skimmin in my 7s its quite comfortable and theyre flexy enough that I can feel everything but I dont think ill change this year because my feet are the warmest part of my setup. 3/2s are brutal this season, definitely buying a thicker wetsuit before next winter. still, though my hands get the coldest. dont know what thickness the gloves are, theyre very nice, but I think I'd be warmer with something waterproof(maybe?)

Glenn, theres slope at smiths but not alot, anything more then a 2-3 foot swell will probably start coming up further then where the slope is, so if your there on a day with decent waves it might work. It was ankle biters literally today

I went w/ my lil brother , took no pics. went to jetty4 and the waves were shitty reforms but they were close to shore and fun and the conditions felt pretty warm. tomorrows supposed to be warmer, but windier. sat. is supposed to be like a degree warmer than that and like 6mph winds(nothin) skimmed in these hilarious neoprene chuck taylors, which I just might photograph for the enjoyment of this thread.

edit: I forgot to mention that the slope at jetty4 was ok to actually good, maybe a lil short.

off sunrise: exit 65 south to riverhead rd., then down riverhead road a ways until you reach a traffic circle. take said circle kind of straight(1/2way thru the circle, there's a sign with an arrow labeled "beach") take that road as straight as you can go all the way past the bridge. turn right at swordfish beach club.
like halfway between cupsogue and the swordfish beach bridge its a lil town beach but yea theres a lot of jetties in close proximity to each other.
yea ill put cellphone pics i took of the waves up, although youre best off looking at them in person. these dont look very much like what i was skimming.
