Name a movie that scared or scarred the shit out of you. Feel free to also list the type of movie that will mess with you (gore, zombies, etc)
I'll start.
Poltergeist.
Yea yea, it may not seem that freaky. But as a kid I watched it against my parents will. Turns out the clown that the kid had on his dresser before the storm, happen to be the same one I had. Adding, when I finished watching it, it was storming and we ust so happen to have a big tree outside. Ugh
So, movies that mess with me are Supernatural or Ghost type movies. Simply because...you can't reason with a ghost or hurt them, they'll haunt your ass until they're done. :)

First time I saw The Exorcist, I was a little too young, and I thought the Devil was going to creep inside my head and make me puke split pea soup and scream 'FUCK ME!"
Now when I watch horror, I just laugh, Hostel, Halloween, The Crappening ( I laughed really hard at that one) etc.

yeah i saw the happening but thought it was okay
but i would definitely not say at all scary.
The Grudge
the first one came out and i hadnt seen the ring.
i was at my friend's house one night and we were all alone with his amazingly huge stereo system and tv set up. it was really loud.
we were already kinda freaking out and then the dog started baking at nobody and it was bull mastiff so it wasnt a little bark. it was also storming when we watched it. so scary.

the problem with todays horror is they boost the gore and think they are horror. Its not the gore that makes you a great horror flick, its the tension and fear factor. You create the right atmosphere and you can make anything scary without the gore.

i agree a billion percent raves. the gore is okay for some shock factor but like saw and hostel arent scary they are just gruesome.
edit: in my pos rep I mean to write "say" instead of "saw"
and requiem for a dream was good but such a screwed up movie.

Raves, I agree with you. It's all about the imagination. For instance, I really got freaked out by Blair Witch.
Chucky. That movie was terrifying for me when I was a lot younger.

Seeing Blair Witch in an unfamiliar town w/ only one friend and both of us on large and equal amounts of acid and both not realizing it was fake was very scarring. But that soon wore off once I realized it was fake.

Yeah his acting is not great but his last two films...makes Star Wars acting look great.
See Star Wars sort of drowned the bad acting out but if you put him in a god awful movie....he shines in horrible acting.

The Amittyville Horror was pretty freaky to watch since the actual house is 10 minutes from where i live other than that when i was like 7 i watched that goosebumps show and there was an episode with one of those ventriloquist dummies, fucked my life up for weeks.

i saw it in theaters when i was little and almost cried.
Even though we're big into horror films, there are few that are actually scary (vs. just shocking, gory or even more like a thriller). Poltergeist still has some spooky moments (clowns under the bed? Goddam...). The Excorcism of Emily Rose (even though half of it is a courtroom drama) has a couple of really chilling momements.
Side note: I just disavow the existance of any Star Wars films beyond the original 3 - HC's horrific destruction of one of the great characters of all time, flying Jedi's and fucking midichlorian's?

So it's Halloween time again. I figured it was a good time to revive this thread. We have a lot of new scary movies coming out (Paranormal Activity, Seventh Moon, etc). Feel free to add to this thread with past movies or discuss new scary movies coming.
The mothman prophesy's fucked my brain.

A couple weeks ago I saw a movie on one of the movie channels - The Strangers- I had never heard of it, and it was suppose to be based on 'a true story'. It was scary in a suspenseful way- not too gory.

check out The Last House on the Left. These movies aren't necessarily "scary" but Last House has a scene or two that hit hard. Especially because I was watching it with my 2 younger sisters.

That movie was horrible, just filled with gay horror movie cliches.

Old Dawn or new remade Dawn? My dad had me watching the original when I was young. So jacked. I was a huge fan of 28 days (could've done w/o 28 weeks). But that movie really set the bar. Reminded me of the bar Resident Evil 1 (the game) set.

New Dawn. It was the first Zombie movie I saw. Its not even the movie that got me it was the thinking about what if that happened and the dreams....Those mess me up.

Zombie movies scare the shit out of me. The scene in the beginning with the little girl fucks me up. I also remember playing Resident Evil on PS1 with the lights out at a friends house and being really on edge. Funny because going back to it now it's almost laughable. The graphics are shit.
