View Full Version : question and idea's
My board comes in wednesday so I need to know what to do.
Idea:
this is my design that i have right now
http://i31.tinypic.com/9a9t3d.jpg
I wanna hear you're thoughts about it, I dont want to put it on a $447 board and not like it. So anyone have ideas on what I can do that would look good and be good for traction also?
Questions:
What grit sand paper do I need to do?
What can I use to cut the pads?
What can I do to make it perfect, I want everything to be perfect...
These might be stupid questions and idea's but oh well.

i like wax, honestly. geo has a setup like that though...and he's pretty alright at killing it at skimboarding.
you have an exile coming, right? with a textured top? i wouldn't use anything super gnarly as far as grit goes.

yeah, and if you didnt know the higher the gritt the smoother it is. I was thinking going 150 > 200> 250>300

80 grit sand paper for about 90 seconds pretty hard wherever you're going to apply pads/stickers. get some nail polish remover from the bathroom cupboard, and a paper towel and wipe off the remaining dust. get that bitch clean feel her, is she smooth? apply pads. just put an arch bar don't do any of that other silliness... and then shralp it!

that's my set up...i personally like stripper pads better than wax, plus xtrak is super soft...its up to you...i cut my pads myself with some arts&craft plastic scissors...i tried to make it perfect, but my friend who was helping didn't center the arch bar 100% in the center, and i didnt notice until after i put the rest of the pads on and it was too late...you can't really tell though..unless you really stare at it for awhile

...or if you have a foot that goes on the archbar. hey-oooo!
seriously, look at surfers. they use wax and a tailpad. that's it. and they pull into way sicker waves than most skimboarders ever will. maybe we should take a lesson from them, and just paste our little archbars and tailpads on there and go ride our sweet little skims.

don't blow it like that CHICK. haha jk that was a sexist stab.
seriously it's your ride do whatever floats your boat. just don't try to make some gay design with your pads for no reason whatsoever. that's just hurting.

Not a fan of the front stripper pad bull shit. Looks silly IMO, but then again it's not really about looks it's about performance and wax is a major pain in the ass to maintain also. I'm just glad I don't haveta use either on my board.
I guess I'll try out what i have and pray my toes like it.
just use the skimshop pads, remove gayness

hey!! watch it!! lol
i prefer stripper pads to wax....that's just me...i feel like they give me better grip and balance so i'm going to continue using them...they're not girly though..i know of guys who use stripper pads as well...geo..pete..etc

I have the stripper pads on my board right now, just to try them out, and I've discovered I like wax a lot more. I'll take a quick picture with my phone to show you how mine look.

from peluso forever ago...
when the textured deck is waxed you need to give it a really good sanding to remove all contaminants (wax). We use 80 grit and sand HARD for about 1 - 2 minutes with the palm of your hand. You should be creating a lot of dust. Sand the entire area where the pad will go.
worked for me...just pushed pretty firmly for a couple minutes till it felt smooth and no longer textured. wet paper towel to wipe off all the cocaine. alcohol to get all the residue. Then stuck em. pretty much what steve said.
there are various ways to get the paids straight...most people just eye it up and make sure it looks staight...mark the corners with a small pencil dot and stick em. Some people (me) used a measuring tape to center it rail to rail and nose to tail. I know mapdash used the laser from a stud finder (most ingenius idea) to center the pads.
