seriously. i think its gonna be another Tiananmen Square Massacre.
the commies are already moving in troops with rifles, (they were using sticks to beat unarmed protesters)
were gonna probably see world journalists pushed out of tibet and the golden shield intensified (Chinese government controls most internet traffic and information through a firewall dubbed the Golden Shield)
watching Taiwanese and Japanese news right now, shits going down.

Yeah it's not good. I'm hoping for the best, but we'll never really know what the outcome will be. There is so much censoring. It's sad because most of the protestors are unarmed and doing a peaceful protest. It's sickening.

Chinese are going to do everything possible to try to not make that happen again due to the olympics. So I think it is really a smart move on the behalf of tibet in order to cause a ruckus right now as this is probably the best time to force China to bargain.

China just wants to own Tibet, that's the only reason they are there.

Why I owned (and really listened to) that cd as a 4th grader, I have no idea.
I don't understand why people want to "free" Tibet. Most are idiotic young liberals who have no idea how hellish Tibet was before the Communists took over. The thought of putting the Llamas back in power should be pretty revolting to everyone.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure Mao was a bigger asshole than the Llamas. Not to mention the fact that it was still a sovereign nation that was assumed by the communists to be raped of whatever resources they could provide.

im no expert on the region, but this causes me to ask just how long can china go on with what ever humanitarian policy it dictates?
The rest of the world is going to be reluctant to be as self righteous about intervention we have historically been.
While the US will likely be tied up in the middle east for the next 50 years(plus lessons learned, resulting debt, and international persona) .. we won't want to take action against a larger Chinese travesty.
So does china just run unchecked for the next century?

I understand what is happening IN Tibet. I'm talking about the idiotic young liberals in THIS country with "Free Tibet" paraphernalia.
I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure Mao was a bigger asshole than the Llamas.
Nope. What was the first thing in Tibet the Chinese outlawed when they conquered it? Slavery. Why? Because in the bad old theocracy of Tibet the Llama class were entitled to keep slaves and there was also a class of serfs who were tied to the land they were forced to work. It is very sad when peoples' civil liberties increase after being conquered by Maoists.

The Chinese would say that its a province of China that is historically part of Imperial China and thus is Chinese. While I have a definite opinion, I think its none of my business, just like it would be none of the business of a Chinese person if Mexico wanted to retake Texas or some other parallel scenario.
Did the Chinese treat them fairly brutally? Probably. Were atrocities committed? Definitely. I think the same could be said for any expansionist war/conquest. At the same time, before the Chinese took over Tibet a huge percentage of Tibetans were slaves or serfs, there was no public education, clean water, or electricity. All those things were implemented by the Chinese. Say what you will, the average Tibetan today is infinitely better off than his great grand parents. The only people whose lifestyle suffered were the Llamas, and I have no sympathy for slave owners who masquerade THEIR human rights violations in religion.

You could probably pick me out of one of those crowd shots if you spent some time. I helped two of those girls up above the crowd so they could get out of there as people were falling down and getting trampled and shit. I was the friendly looking tall guy apparently, even with my long hair.

Their civil liberties didn't increase, the efforts of their labor simply went elsewhere.
And I don't disagree with you, but I remember a long time ago I took a course in college on Chinese history. Most of it escapes me, but I remember my teacher not really wanting to discuss Tibet.
