Ok some basics: First boards, purpose: Cruising the boulevards/asphalt stretches and cruising through town... Can spend around 180/200 euros (which my chosen setup is atm)

My choice as a noob:

-Bahne Banshee
-Randal 150mm
-Gravity Abec5 bearings
-Super G's 72mm 78A

And what kind of risers do I need???

Any things you would change?

get Khiro bushings & risers from off silverfish, there should still be like a variety pack, I got it like 2 years ago, it's sick.

Yeah well it's just my first longboard so I just want something basic... I can always change the bushings or anything

Go w/ Redz for bearings...they are only like $16 and are fast.

ABEC ratings really don't mean shit for skate bearings. ABEC was a rating system for bearings used in something else (sorry forgot what it was). Any ways and ABEC 5 or 7 is rated to spin faster than any skate wheel will ever go under normal circumstances.

How well a bearing spins all comes down to how good of quality it is, that's why Redz don't even have an ABEC rating.

Little something I found...I read a whole rundown somewhere just forgot where it is.

"Does ABEC affect the speed of your skates?
No. Not unless you are skating at 330 mph. That's based on a 608 bearing limiting speed of 32,000 rpm. Only in extremely high speed applications like ultra high speed motors and precision measuring instruments can bearings above ABEC 1 affect performance. Regardless of how fast you plan to go, speed is affected first and foremost by the choice of lubricant."

Redz are not available here... and these bearings cost like €12,50 (when bought in mass, that's what the club does) so it can't really be a miss-buy for my first set... don't want to go out of control ;):P.

muwah voor die 12,50 rijd ik wel ff hier op :P... zal als groentje het verschil toch niet echt merken... haha! Op die wat oudere lagers van Stefan's board vond ik het nog snel en soepel genoeg gaan dus dat zit wel snor!

summary:

Richard: Reds are available here...
Patrick: not here in farmer country...
Richard: they have Redz in Rotterdam (like 75miles from where i live) should i get some for you?
Patrick: Nahhh for the 12.50 i'll just use these for the time being... can get new ones for the summer when it's not rainy

got it?

cabwab is totally right. Abec ratings are pretty much only for machinery and has nothing to do with how fast your bearings are.

seriously, if you're not registered on silverfish, go there. You'll learn so much more than you will here (about longboards).

I've been rocking a world industries longboard I got out of ccs for the past eight years, i've been thinking about getting a new one (thrashed doesn't even begin to describe the shape this thing is in) and i've pretty much made up my mind with Arbor. I hate the flex that sector nines and similiar boards have and I got to ride one of these was sold. Check em out http://www.tactics.com/arbor/longboards

definately get the white khiros for your front truck.

and i would spend a little more money and get better wheels. super gs are pretty narrow and they wear out quick. i would suggest abec 11 flashbacks (70mm) for something similar

good call on the whites. I think I actually have bottom whites and top blues for mine, but that's b/c I don't live in a hilly area and mainly skate parking garages

edit: my bad, blue bottom white top. If you're going to be doing a lot of around town riding, softer bearings will keep it nice and loose (turning corners, etc). For big hills where you're gonna be hitting high speeds, they might make your trucks a little too loose.

dont get the gravity bearings, for the same price you will be much more pleased with bones reds.

How much do you guys weigh that are running whites?? I tried a pair on my board and had absolutely no rebound. It felt like I shoved some jello between my hanger and baseplate. I'm a bigger guy (175), but I've only seen whites recommended for realllly skinny people or kids.

ZapBulletRider
02-28-2008, 02:03 PM
175. I had the khiro variety pack (red, yellow, white, blue) and I tried quite a few combos before landing on what I did which was blue bottom, white top (had that backwards above). I liked this combo because it kept it really loose, but having a harder bottom gave it more rebound. I think white bottoms was too soft for me.

02-28-2008, 05:42 PM
Oh ok. I didn't realize you were using a barrel combo. I tried the whites alone.

ZapBulletRider
02-28-2008, 05:43 PM
yeah I agree white bottoms are too soft for guys our size

haha just realized how funny that sounded

yeah try different combos if you get the variety pack.

i ride double whites front and double reds back on the 24incher and its insane.

ZapBulletRider
02-28-2008, 06:19 PM
hmm that's weird, that's really the combo you liked the most? I would think stiffer in the front would give you the best responsiveness and stability

Pat-Juh
02-29-2008, 01:33 PM
Okay just ordered:

Bahne Banshee
Randal RII 150s (2 offcourse!)
Standard Gravity ABEC5 bearings (for 12.50 can't go wrong..)
Super G's 72mm 78A wheels (red ones xD)
Yessup griptape.

Just to get used into it... Once I don't mess up the wheels/bearings by crashing into things i'll upgrade them, haha!

ZapBulletRider
02-29-2008, 02:11 PM
so basically nothing changed. Well, that should be a fun setup.

never tried riding with stiffer ones up front. i decided to go softer up front after getting responses from the annoying threads I made as a newb. i am pretty sure its a good set up (at least for my board) because one of the guys who responded was the pro who designed the board i ride (gravity ben wei)

Nahh... Just a basic setup to get me rolling... Know some people with different kind of boards/wheels/bushings and stuff...

Going to try those out in the next couple of weeks/months so that I can get a feel of what I want some more because now I've only ridden one board.

My plan is to have my needs all sorted out before may... Since it's going to be all week cruising weather at that time..:D
