I have received close to ten emails, pms and more from people who I didn't ask to go cover the event, all offering high quality photos and video from the contest. All stoked.

This is what California needs, especially outside of Laguna. This is what most states need, though arguably a lot of other places may have no idea what ForeverSkim is or who I am (I don't have that big of an ego, I promise).

So congrats to Florida for being so excited about skimboarding.

We just are stoked on skimboarding because it's cool to see the pro's from Cali down here. It’s cool to see some the gulf coast guys whip up on some of the Cali guys too. It’s also really cool that Mo and Paulo have come to Florida for a comp twice in the same month (correct me if I’m wrong) ounce for The Naples comp (which might have been in January) and ounce for the Boardwalk Blow Up. I personally love seeing Bradford whip up on the Cali guys.

I guess it's more about people who think the mag tends to primarily feature Florida content at times...it's because the submitted content is weighted heavily in Florida's favor.

And I definitely meant mainly places outside of Laguna.

Have previous Vic years had that kind of result? I can't remember...if so, and I would imagine it would as one of the biggest contests, that's sick.

There is one skim contest on the UST in Laguna.

edit: that sounded kinda dickish. i just meant that there are quite a few contests that the UST has decided to put on their tour which certainly deserve the same type of coverage that people in Florida give to almost every contest. not to mention the contests that aren't on the tour which need the exposure just as much if not more.

i gotta agree cam, but it's not just people in cali (hey, you said it first). i don't think conditions were worth a thousand pics and all the attention it seems to have gotten, just a few good pics to give you the gist of what was going on.

for example, between both D and myself, we took allittle over a hundred pics during saturdays pro heats. then last night, D took around 600 pics of a 3 hour session down south. BIG difference in conditions. BIG difference.

But isn't that how it works with any action sport? How stoked do you think people will be on the magazines if better pictures are posted here first? Every time I go on a trip the pics are ran in a mag within 10-15 days. We're usually struggling to make deadlines, not sitting on shots. Same thing with almost every pic ran on FSM and Skimboarder.

none taken, jim. but i don't see where the "these aren't my best" is coming from. when people submit photos, i try to tell them as quickly as possible which ones i would like to run and which ones i wouldn't so that they can still post the majority of their photos elsewhere.

i'm not against people posting photos from the contests, i just personally don't want to run content that's already been posted online. so i try not to.

And it has "ALWAYS" been that way. Crap, the furthest north those boys would drive would be to the Wedge. For a long time, seeing a guy from Laguna at the wedge was a rarity, let alone seeing somebody from Laguna at Seal. Them boys didn't venture too far from the teets....

Then you see a pic in Skimboarder of Geo at Seal and it says "The Phillipenes".......makes you wonder if they are too embarrassed to say that they actually skimmed the place or ??????

I used to live in san diego and make regular trips to laguna early in the a.m so I could score good waves by myself, and I used to laugh about how "spoiled" laguna kids were too. But now I live here and that view sure has changed. Spoiled is the correct word sure, the waves are good here a lot, probably more consistently than anywhere else so people get "spoiled" because they can pretty much get waves whenever they want. Is that bad? Are they bad because they wont drive an hour and a half to ride liners at seal or possibly skunked when somewhere in laguna is probably better? When florida kids visit they are stoked to have waves and are at the beach alllll day so they can stock up. But could they do that all day every day? nah. or if they had a choice of when to skim would it be first thing in the morning? nah. probably not.
Too embarrassed to say they skimmed the place? nah.

i dont think laguna skimboarders are that spoiled (im not a local but just sayin'). if you go to a spot in laguna with nobody there, i think it means everyone else is at some other spot that is breaking better. i mean when 10th or west is even remotely working, there would a lot of people early in the morning. Pros can afford to show up later, but ams and groms show up early. i.e. when 10th was kinda working late in '07 i was at the beach at 6:30, and there would already be 5 or 6 people in the line up (and no pros cause i think the wedge was working at the same time)

Also, sorry that some of us grew up in laguna didnt have to make a long trek on a bus to skim at 7 in the morning. I got lucky that my parents lived here and that is the bottom line. So yea spoiled in that aspect(although i wouldnt consider myself spoiled in anything else) And i am going to say it one more time because i have already said it a thousand, that vic pic is so deceiving when it is firing at aliso, and the tide is right i will be there at 7, but i am not going to get there at 7 when i know for a fact that it is gonna be good at 11. No hate intended in this post, simply felt that someone who grew up here should get a chance for a rebuttal.
