View Full Version : Unlocked cell phones
I just saw the other thread selling the SLVR and it made me think of this. If anyone needs a phone unlocked I can unlock most Motorola's and Nokia's. Send me a PM or post here to find out if I can unlock your particular model. I charge $25.00 to unlock plus shipping fees if you are out of town. If you live in the Tampa Bay area you can bring it to me personally.

25.00 to unlock a cell phone? Why not just charge them shipping and be a good person and do it for free?

Check out some of the internet sites to unlock phones, they usually start at $30 and go up. Plus the majority of them make you send your phone to the UK to get it done. You really have no way of knowing if the company is legit or not, thus you're gambling that you will never get your phone back. I've been on this board for over 5 years, its pretty safe bet that I'm not going to disapear with anyones phone. Plus the piece of equipment alone to unlock them cost $300. So no, I'm not going to do it for free...

Unlocked phones are always glitched. Some things wont work right etc.

thats not true mapdash, if it's done incorrectly it can glitch, but if it's done in a profesional manner than it will always work fine. the ones you've seen probably have been flashed and had a new firmwear put on them, some companies disable certain features (ex. verizon's V3m doesn't support mp3 ringtones, but it will hold mp3's on a transflash card.)

Some do, but not all. I've never experienced any problems from an unlocked Nokia, although I have from a motorola in the past. I had an unlocked Razr that worked flawlessly, although I once had an unlocked Motorola V80 that was a pile of shit. So it really depends on the model of the phone...

Could you post a picture of the 300$ piece of equipment you use?

I know a fair amount about the firmware / software depending on the model of phone.

I've got a v3m I'm having a lot of trouble getting my computer to recognize it. any ideas?
Do you have the Moto Tools software?
I believe the V3m has removeable memory card correct? You could always use a card reader and transfer everything through the card reader. I realize it may be a pain in the ass, but it may be a work around.
Hope this helps also for the V3m:
Make a mp3 a ringtone
----------------------
1) Make sure your Transflash card is in your phone.
2) On your phone go to "Get Tunes & Tones"
3) Select "Record New"
4) Select "Options" and switch the storage device to "mini-SD Card"
5) Go back to "Record New" and record a simple audio. It does not matter how long, I did it for 2 seconds.
6) Go back to "Get Tunes & Tones" and scroll down to the bottom and play (to make sure it recorded something) the new audio recording, also remember the name.
7) Shutdown the phone and put the Transflash into a PC.
8) Copy a mp3 file into the root directory of the Transflash card.
9) Move the mp3 to the audio recording file name (it will end in .qcp)
Windows Eg: G:\> move mymusic.mp3 061406_23591.qcp
*n*x Eg: # mv mymusic.mp3 061406_23591.qcp
10) Once the Transflash is back into the phone assign the file as a ringtone to any contact.
Obviously there is some database on the phone that keeps track of which files can be ringtones. I found out that if you copy a recorded audio file (that was created on the phone) from the Transflash to phone back to Transflash the database removes the ringtone ability.

Hey utah, im glad you've been working with that stuff for a while, but sending a phone to you, jst by hoping what you say is true, aint good enough. I wouldnt do it. Everyone else, i went to ebay paid 1.00 and i got the the unlock code sent to me by email. unlocked my phone easily on the first try. Should check it out, real good and cheap. Got a cingular phone, workin on tmobile, with no trouble

If you got a Motorola unlock code for $1.00 dollar, than you got a GREAT deal. I would jump on that every time. Its my experience though that there is not a stable way of remote unlocking for the Motorolas. And as I mentioned earlier, most places start at $30 and up...

Yeah, some companies are easier to get away with than others. Some of the wireless providers have safe guards installed to prevent this. I do not advocate insurance fraud by any means. Its fraud and its illegal...

Actually it was a nokia phone
Nokia's are a lot easier to do. There are no problems remote unlocking the majority of the Nokia models...
