Everyone has probably seen a Millionaire put his very first dollar in a high tech glass frame...
Well, lets say you turned into a hot-shot skimboarder today, what would be on your wall in a glass frame with laser motion detectors hooked up to AK47s in little peepholes in the wall?
1. What was your first board?
2. How long did you keep it for till you forked over your life savings for a higher end board
3. Do you still have it?
4. Any memorable falls/wipe outs/stuff that made you reconsider this sport.
EDIT: 5. How long have you been shredding?

Also it would be nice if you added some input on what skills you were able to acquire with your first board... ( I.E. were you able to Wrap a wave with it or anything worth mentioning)

At first I was able to wrap white wash. Then I started going to beaches with real shore break. Then I started to get more consistent at wrapping, so I picked up an Exile S-glass. Now I have been skimming for a little over a year. I can wrap consistently now, get a little shack / head dip deal when the waves are bigger than waist hight, ride lines consitently, on the occasion if the waves are big enough get a widdly flip.

good game. no "re" .kay. thanks.
what is re? or do i have that all wrong.
hmmm...skills i was able to aquire on that board...well it was a 110 (weighed for my lil bro)...i was like 130 at the time. so wave riding was limited to sinking and occationally hitting a wave face with some speed. I could shuv-it, spin like 900s on the sand (lol), thats bout it. i was limited to sandskimming.

zap bullet, was riding it until a couple weeks ago. i learned how to 1 step and side slip a little, but nothing major. i have a million little scars on my foot from kicking the "rail" when dropping it. i still have it, but it has a crack through the length of it, and the tail is about to snap off.

leant everything i needed to learn on it for about 2 years (i live far from the beach, 2 years back then translates to about 20-30 sessions)

got hurt plenty, would never reconsider a sport just because of an injury (unless it inhibited me to actually take part in that sport)

1: Large Victoria Woody
2: Kept it for a month then gave it to my friend and bought a Meyer Hybrid with a foam core.
3: Nope
4: Yeah I fell pretty hard and busted up my knee so bad that it swelled up the size of a softball and was so sore the next time I could not move but I did have fun and like they say...no pain..no gain! Lovin every minute of!
5: Ha! I wish I could shred! Been trying to learn how to skim off and for about 6 months. I get out to the beach maybe 2x a week now so I am slowly getting better!

I think your biggest problem is speed, I think you said you can't run that fast. So try this, each time you skim try to run a little faster. In not to long you will have some good speed. Remember speed is everything ;]

why do i understand 733t?
okay:
-homemade woodie
-few months
-ofcourse i still use it for flatland, and i could never get rid of it i mean ive learned to skim on it and did my first rail on it
- na well the fact i got skimmed over at a contest was quite memorable, people actually come up to me at the beach and ask me if i was the girl who got skimmed over after wiping out during the final hahaha but it never made me reconsider skimboarding, ive reconsidered skimboarding once and that was at this point i thought i'd never get any better but im very very glad i never stopped and kept on trying

I know, but i didnt say it had something to do with winning or losing did i? it was more like i came at this one point i thought id never learn to skim, i was kinda hopeless, all i could do was jump on and fall haha but i kept on trying and deciding to keep on doing it was the best decision ive ever made!

zap fish
like 3 years
it is sitting in the garage right now
I learned on it so of course I fell. my dad got it when I was 8 because he remembered how much fun he had skimming when he was a kid on stinson beach back in the 60's(we still have 2 of his first boards, they look like coffee tables.)
I have been riding for 7 or 8 years now, 5 of just sandskimming off and on and then the last 3 I have been going for some waves when I am at the beach, but just started focusing more on it because I am taking a break from some of my more expensive hobbies.
