The administrator may have enabled referrals, which allows you to be credited for any new users you invite to the forum.
You gain referrals by promoting Skim Online Message Board using your unique referral link.
Each time someone follows this link to Skim Online Message Board and registers as a new member, your referral count will be incremented by one. The number of referrals you have can be viewed in your profile.
Basically, when you are viewing any thread, there is a "Thread Tools" button just above it. This is a pull down menu which lists "E-mail This Page" on it. When you use this and e-mail the page to friend, your referrer ID is tagged. If your friend uses the link and then registers for the message boards and becomes active, then you will get a referral added to your profile count
stolen from some random vbulletin forum and added skim online to make it fit here.
