The past 7 years. I fucked around with it years before that when I was a lot younger too, but not really considered what I think of skimming now. You know what I mean? As a little kid before I ever saw footage of CA, or siders or any of that shit, you go to the beach and just fuck around trying not to fall on your ass... I did that back in Middle school. But then I started "really" skimming when I was in college...

Skimmed for 2 months, tore my ankle, out for 4 months, skimmed for another 2 months then between track season and work skipped a month and a half, skimmed until now, so about 7 months give or take.

as far as noticeable improvements I was basically was just messing around randomly for a good 10years 3weeks in maui a year on a foomie and random trips to HMB and SC, and could very rarely catch a wave if you could call it that... that all changed in 2000 when I bought my carbon slotie... and spent 2 summer sessions at UCSC doing general chem. I was down at the beach every moment I could spare and bore witness to real skimming... ie... Dave Medal killing it. started to mimic his styli and made some serrious progress... then it was officially on from 2002-2006 while I lived in the SC and the monterey area... really things were just getting good for me when I left... every day I would go out I would suprise myself with something new even if it was just one or two waves doing something dope.

Now I struggle with the conditions on a lake but the skills and style are there so whenever I get a chance I can throwdown on some random beach some where. Anyway its not like I am that good, no pro, no am neither just floating along with it all... Hope I can get back out to an ocean soon.

bhassan
07-16-2007, 10:53 PM

I started when I was 37, so 13 months ago, but the waves have sucked 99% of the time that I've been out. So I barely even know how to ride waves. Since then I've averaged once a week, but I can still suck with the best of them. I'd be much better if I lived in Cali.

I might even be older than J-Gordon.

Since the end of my sophomore year in high school so a little over 3 years. But I have to stop for soccer and stuff and living an hour away from the best skim break close to me is rough too. I do it almost every weekend in the spring and definitely a lot over the summer but fall we are in-season for soccer so I take like a 3 month break, which sucks!

I might even be older than J-Gordon. Wow 37 is old to start skimming, good for you to start. Just be careful though, like Aaron said it's hard to skim when your knees and back start to go. And no you're not older, no one is as old as me. I have one foot in the grave and the other on a skim.

Surfing since 16-17,got caught up in partying and thinking it was cool to get in as much trouble as possible, said my peace to that lifestyle and learned it gets you no where, settled down picked up the ramaining pieces of my life started skimming late in the game at 29,still love to surf but skimming has occupied alot more of my freetime and lifestyle(living on the gulf thats what happens),have met some of the coolest peeps thru skimming and am in better shape at 33 than i ever was in my 20's,I owe it all to a good woman and skimming....so only been skimming for 4 yrs and dont see me stopping just like J-Gordan till I die...How many of us thirty somethings are outthere still killing it?

The worst is over for me. I've already been through the pulled groins, twisted ankles, hyper-extended elbows, sore arches & achilles heels, and the scrapes. I've been injury free the last 4 or 5 months.

I've always stayed active. I lift weights 3-4 times a week(since I was 15) and jog 3 miles a couple times a week. I was looking for something to test myself, something a little more competitive, skimming is just what I've been looking for. I'm hooked. Wish I would've started 10 years ago.

My knees are great, my back's a little sore, but that comes with the territory.

yeah I meen I never killed anybody or ever hurt anyone physically(other then myself)just got caught up wit destroying my life wit drugs and alchohol. For those of you that grew up in FL (party state)or really anywhere all you want is to be excepted and one way is to consume as much stupid shit as possible.I am sure there are kids outthere still struggling wit this same sitch beleive me in the end people who you thought wer your friends are just using you for what you can get...I have acquaintences still outhere destroying their lives.Dont run from your problems, handle them face on,properly handle and express your emotions,be good to everyone,be a responsible part of your society, enjoy life cause it is what you make of it...turn back to nature(the ocean for me)dont turn your back on life...

benny you sure have changed alot in the last two years. proud of you man, if i win the lottery you get whatever car you want amigo. now give me some grandma. and its time to go back to the wing ding. by the way benny you wont believe it but i ran into that chick from wing ding it s all good too she loved it.....

anyways i flat skimmed from 87-95 then was intro'd to wave skim when i was about 23 so i shared boards with friends til i met mr cole and there was only about thirty heads skimming so i went evereyday for two years then my knees fell apart so its on and off for the last three years and theres mad heads now that totally burn the stoke and infest the spots like ants. you venice kids are lucky cause half the time its packed on your beaches its kids from up here so most of the time you guys have the beach to yourselves. but skimming is definitely the funnest when at the beach, hot chicks, getting sun, and straight owning the tourists.

benny living down in venice has helped you and it shows you ve gotten better in the last year more then you did fucking around here for 2 years before moving you ve pulled ahead of the crew. haha
