He's right. The Laguna life guards used planks of wood back in the day, and that's how skimboarding was invented. So if you want to be as good as them, and look cool and old school, take his advice. ^^

DO NOT PUT PADS ON A FOAMIE OR WEDGE!!!!!
seriously you will just be wasting your money because in less than a year or so you will want to get a better board.

I'd go with the wedge because I have the foamie and it sucks. Don't get me wrong it's a good board for a beginner getting into waves, but it's as heavy as a rock and the plastic bottom is just plain stupid! And if you plan on getting at least decent at skimboarding, the foamie isn't the board for you. I've had mines for barely 1 month (not even, like 3 weeks) and I ordered the new paulo board just last week. It's a big jump from a foamie but I'll own on the board sooner or later ;) ! Good luck!

Apparently not, because I have one right now and its light as hell. Dont get me wrong, it flexes like a wet piece of cardboard, but mine is lighter than every other exile/sol/slottie ive used.
