It only gets siders on really really good days. It's not like every time you go you'll get siders. It's not that common at all. But Sebastian's still fun nonetheless. It's normally really good, just no siders.

WAY tops easter david.
i think the percentage is even higher then 90% dale.
this past 4-20 was the best i'd seen north inlet in a LONG time. and only 3 of us there. even better/way cleaner then that wednesday. but domke kills no doubt - like no one else here can. wish we would have taped it on 420 cause the stills don't do a sider there justice.
he was reaching this clean 420 sider connection for hours.

Yeah it'll be funny to see all the people out there now thinking because they can ride a wave the can ride a sider. Not true. Siders are extremely hard to ride. I'm glad someone got footage of the one sider in FL (I think) actually working. That sider is so fickle and hardly ever works. Domke is just ridiculous though and makes it look so easy.

I think that they're can't be a sidewash off the rocks at that spot, because the rocks dont extend out enough...those are just my thoughts, because even on one of the biggest swells Florida has ever had it hasn't worked.

Does it hit off anything and then come back across the other waves?
solvenskim
05-30-2007, 09:11 AM
the fact that it doesn't hit something and bounce off doesn't mean it isn't a sider..a sider is any wave that connects to another wave at an angle. and yea it pretty much bounces off...
gulfcoastskimmer
05-30-2007, 09:20 AM
I know I wasn't claiming that a sider had to bounce off anything I was just wondering if that one did. Looks too weak to really connect to anything. Still probably fun though...

Ok then where?
There are NO legit siders that work with any consistency on the gulf coast. So that means its on the east coast. None of the inlets south of Sebastian work. I know this for a fact. So it has to be north of Sebastian of which there are like 3 or 4 inlets.
Maybe there is some random spot that had a sider once........but I stand by my previous statement.
Mapdash

actually i would say that it does have to bounce off something to be a legitimate sider. If not it is just a smaller wave with a little angle. these little side waves occur often especially with a decent swell with real a short period. (ie Andrea)
From what i have seen though these rarely connect or have the potential of a real sider that reflects off of something.

well that is true anywave that is a side wave that connect to a another wave is considered a sider..though the genuine ones are the reflected ones.....other examples of siders are when waves wash over submerged rocks angling the wave..or a washer machine wave ..which is a sider produced by sand..but i understand what you mean
gulfcoastskimmer
05-30-2007, 09:59 AM
Yeah I agree with Mapdash the only genuine, legit siders refract off something not to say though that A-frames and such can't occur because of the way the sand is or swell direction.

mapdash, what about wright's beach up north in bodega bay? is that not a sider? technically all it does is wrap around a rock, but it does indeed creat a sidewave/sidewash that connects to another wave. there is no rock at all to make a sider you are talking about, the swells just wrap around the big rock. is it not a legit sider then?
