Pier view

Down the beach from Surfriders in Malibu is a spot that can be head high while the pier is barely waist. Only a small walk from Surfriders, Pierview can be pumping overhead barrels while Surfriders is shut down from too much tide. The beach can be fickle, but during the summer time it is generally consistant. Pierview takes south swells… Continue »

Temescal Canyon

Temescal canyon is a wide stretch of beach that always seems to have a good slope at high tide. In the winter, if you catch Temescal on a big tide and a strong swell, its almost a guarantee that you will get good shorebreak. Temescal seasonally gets rocks during the summer, but during the winter is completely rockless. The beach… Continue »

Topanga Beach

During the winter, Topanga is the most consistent and best spot in the LA area. As long as you have a solid north swell and a high tide, Topanga is almost always pumping. The only problem with Topanga.Topanga is best during the winter, and isn’t even worth the trip during the summer because other spots near by are better on… Continue »

Westward Beach

This beach has unbelievable shorebreak. I noticed someone put that there was good skimboarding in Malibu around Zuma Beach. This is kind-of where it is located. The skimboarding at Zuma is crap, not shorebreak at all. I go there as often as possible, but I have seen as big as eight- foot shore break there, and on average there is… Continue »

South Bay of Los Angeles

South Bay of Los Angeles (Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach) are not known for their great skimming spots, but if one is diligent and patient, there can be some to be found. During the summer time, south sides of Hermosa and Manhattan Piers a little shore pound found at high tide on a small west swell. El Porto… Continue »

Rat Beach – Palos Verdes

RAT Beach is a nice shorebreak just below Torrance beach where I skim. You can easily run, skim out, make the turn and ride little 1-3 foot shorebreak on any given day. Beginners can ride out 5-8 feet and ride the whitewash (1 ft.) and more advanced people can go out farther (8-10 ft.) and ride the bigger breaks. Those… Continue »

Deer Creek – Malibu Area

Deer Creek is the home of the Gold Coast Skim contest. Deer Creek works mid to high tide on any swell. Deer Creek has a south and north cove. North side is the most consistent. Deer Creek fires best mid summer to fall, or whenever there is plenty of sand. If you want to see deep driving barrel rides and… Continue »

Escondido – Malibu Area

In the city of Malibu there is a spot. Escondido. I skimmed there hard for 2 years.1998 and 1997.I was told about this spot by a pro skimmer in Ventura in 1995.Its history goes back a ways. A lot of local skimmers have told me they wraped this spot in the 80s and early 90s. Unique because there are houses… Continue »

Zuma Beach – Malibu Area

One of my favorite spots is “westward” Zuma BEACH. It has a good steep slope in certain parts of the shore and rocks are minimal. It faces west and can be good with any swell direction. Its best at tides from 4.0 to 5.5 I estimate. Waves from 3 to 5 feet are most skimmable. Anything bigger and it tends… Continue »
