In the final days of May 2013 the world’s top professional skimboarders converged on Cabo San Lucas for the annual Cabo Clasico. Near perfect shorebreak conditions persisted for all the pro heats as they battled it out man on man until a victor was chosen.

Laguna Beach’s Teddy Vlasis walked away with this years title followed by Perry Pruitt from North Carolina, Juan Carlos Nazario from Cabo and Brandon Sears, also from Laguna Beach.

Skimmexiko is just a name, it´s the name of a website that doesn’t believe in flags, one that doesn’t believe in countries and doesn’t believe in localism.  How could waves belong to anyone?  This website believes in passion, the passion that we share for skimboarding and everything involved in it: friendships, trips, fun, memories; those memories that we try to save on images.

With the same happiness that all of you spend hours on the beach running for waves that break on shore; Skimmexiko use a camera and they spend hours working on a computer to put together this visual work where they try to show all of you out there what skimboarding means to them.

 Summer for a skimboarder in South Florida means heat, rain, and flatness. So when a 4’ groundswell with offshore winds spanning five days shows up on the forecast, it does not go unnoticed. Firing waves bombarded the East Coast of Florida for arguably the best swell of the year. Spots from Vilano to Fort Lauderdale were all lighting up, but one wave stood out.

A wrap can be found on any good swell, but a decent line is not as easy to come by. So South Floridians and Gulf Coasters alike took to a city dominated by Bentleys and $30 burgers. A wonderland of luxury and point breaks nestled between Jupiter and Deerfield. A short walk past beautifully groomed hedges and multimillion dollar homes takes you to one of the finest waves Florida has to offer.

For five straight days, the sun shined, the wind blew west, and the waves reeled. The morning and evening high tides brought the best conditions, but fun skim was had all day. Crystal blue lines exploded off the rocks and barreled down the umbrella-adorned sand. You could pull tech or just hang out in the pocket. There was a wave for every riding style and plenty to go around. The swell left behind sunburn, soreness, and stoke from an unforgettable May session.

In the past 10 years the skimboarding scene in Alabama has had its slow but steady rise. With the help of Johnny McElroy, owner of local shop Blonde Johns, it has become more than a scene, but an every day opportunity. Over the past 4 years, the teams travels have included New Jersey to Florida, over to California and down to Cabo as well. This edit follows us around the East Coast during the 2012 contest season and includes some of our better home break sessions as well. Filmed and Edited mainly by Luke Walding who is known as one of the pioneers for skimboarding in the area, and a huge factor in why skimboarding has become so popular here. We hope you enjoy a glimpse into our passion.

This February was my first trip to Melaque, Mexico. I had heard many great things about the waves and local skimboarders, but I was still really impressed by what I saw. You could count on super fun skim waves in front of the hotel every morning and evening, like clockwork, no questions asked. Glassy tall barrels in the morning and super hittable lips all afternoon. Even better, was the variety of excellent waves around every other corner.

For me, this trip was a family vacation with my wife and kids and we all found exactly what we were looking for. Warm water, great weather, good waves, and most importantly, a slowed down lifestyle where you can really enjoy every moment.A day in Melaque seemed like the eqivelant to three back home. The weather was, as always, so warm that the locals were already skimming on point. It definitly helped me shake the winter and get my spring time legs in action.

I was also able to score enough insane skim footage to make an epic part in my next skim video that will drop for the Vic in June. I would never have found the quality of waves that we found without the help of Jaime “Fido” Martinez. Fido is El Hefe, or, the boss, in Melaque. Hooking up with Fido is a must when trying to find epic liners and side wash in the area. Next winter, I will help Fido gear up to accept a small crew of willing adventurers that wish to have the perfect winter getaway. The old MOV format wasn’t working out anymore. There were too many people sharing accounts for us to keep progressing our media quality and content.

The heart of MOV, and Skimboarding media in general, continues to be driven by a core group of really awesome and responsible guys who understand that you get what you pay for, while another group that is a product of the “entitlement” generation couldn’t really care less if I were here today and gone tomorrow, and they continue to undermine the efforts of the responsible.

We’re going to give it one more go with this new semi-public format combined with a YouTube page for our old stuff in a last ditch effort to turn a small profit and move forward. If that doesn’t work I believe we will take a bow and exit the stage like so many before us.
