Traction Pads/Arch Bars

Traction Pads/Arch Bars

Traction pads are rubber pads that you glue to the deck of your board for traction. Most people love them and think they provide much better control while skimboarding. Others hate them. They sell them for both the front and the back foot but be careful, they are usually about 40 bucks! Most people find it sufficient to have one on the back of the board and then just use wax or wax/arch bar on the front.

Arch bars are usually part of traction pads but can be used separately as well. They are also glued to the deck of the board so that the bar fits right under the arch of your foot. Many people put one of these under their front foot with wax around it for maximum traction without buying another pad.

Traction pads and arch bars are best probably best purchased at your local surf shop. There are a variety of manufacturers and styles and this way you get to look at them first hand and decide which you like the best.
