30th East Coast Skimboarding Championships Becomes Zap Amateur World Championships Of Skimboarding
Skim USA Press Release
In a bold transition Skim USA officials along with organizers of the East Coast Skimboarding Championships announced earlier this year the 30th Annual East Coast Skimboarding Championships in Dewey Beach will now be the Amateur WORLD Championships of Skimboarding.
“This Classic Dewey event celebrates a very special 30th Anniversary in August. This year we are taking it back to its roots as an all amateur contest just the way it started” said contest organizer and Alley-Oop Skim Camp co-owner, Jason Wilson, “We are inviting the best amateur riders from around the world. Our intention is to create a true Amateur World Championships highlighting the world’s best amateur skimboarders”.
The Amateur World Championships of Skimboarding will be held on August 13th and 14th at Bellevue Street Beach in Dewey Beach beginning each day at 9:00 A.M.
The contest is sanctioned by Delaware based Skim USA a non-profit, all volunteer organization that serves as the sport of Skimboarding’s National Governing Body. The event also serves as the Grand Finals for the Zap Pro/AM Tour, a series of 8 East Coast Skimboarding events which began in Florida during January of this year.
The Zap Amateur World Championships of Skimboarding is open to skimmers of all ages and ability levels from the Mini Division representing children ages 8 and under all the way up to Sr. Grandmasters representing men 40 and up. Competition divisions in Girls, Women and Semi-Pro are also offered.
“The Semi-Pro Division is really like the Pro-Division of our previous contests. These guys are the sport’s elite, the new breed who are young, powerful skimmers and not afraid to bust an untested trick in international competition” stated Wilson.
Anyone wishing to enter the event can pick up entry forms at area surf or skim shops or online at www.skimusa.org. Entry fee is $35.00 amateur or $50.00 semi-pro. Competitors must be a member of Skim USA Association. Deadline for entries is August 8, 2011.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Skim USA Scholarship Program. Skim USA’s Scholarship Program offers scholarship grants to student skimmers who desire to continue their education beyond the secondary level. The grants are based upon academic performance and citizenship rather than athletic prowess.
This event is free to the public and spectators are encouraged to come to Dewey Beach and plan to spend the day at this action packed athletic event.
